I agree it's not likely to happen; I, for one, would welcome it. But, and I know I'm being overly optimistic here, the key to a mends between Ed and Sam is, IMO, Wolf. I don't know any of these folks personally, but Ed's a dad, like a lot of us, and just my impression (as a Father), if my kid ask me to live and let live with some old foes...man I'd have a difficult time not obliging. Just my opine...if Wolf ask Dad to let all that shit go, and bring them back for another session, tour, or what ever, I'd think he'd do it.

I think Wolf has to go do his own thing or stay with Tremonti. Otherwise he'll always live in his dad's shadow. He'll never need the money and he'll probably tire of VH taking five years off between projects, if they ever do anything again. I think he'd encourage dad to make nice with Sammy and Mike. 25-30 yrs. ago we all thought they could never go back to Dave and they did it more than once, with an even bigger falling out the second time. So stranger things have happened than their getting back with Sammy and Mike.

I think some of you are really over doing the Sammy being eternally loyal to Mike shit.

Loyalty has it's limits. Sammy's been a great bud to Mike, & nobody could dispute that.

Having said that......No one is getting any younger & Sammy will not refuse to tour &/or record with VH just because the door has been closed for Mike. Y'all are extremely naive & idealistic to believe that.

Remember I told you that when it happens......lol

AFU was my favorite song on OU812

OU812 was a good album

OU812 was not a great album like the first 6 albums with Dave were

FW, 1, 2 and 1984 in particular

I don't really care that Dave's time has past. Happens to lots of singers/players. No biggie to me.

I personally think Eat 'em and Smile and Skyscraper were just as good as OU812 :dunno:

Alright, I just plugged my Anderson Classic into my Smallbox and jammed along with a bunch of VH stuff (piped through my PA) and thoroughly enjoyed the shit out of it. I even played a Van Hagar tune -- The Seventh Seal. Had forgotten how much ass that song kicks. Still prefer the old stuff (played a bunch of VH1 - Fair Warning stuff tonight). But there are some shining moments from the Van Hagar era too. I remember really digging Black and Blue, and Finish What Ya Started back in the day. And hell... I even like Dreams when I'm in the mood.

Yeah. It's not a war.
If you like it you like it. Good music is good music.
I liked skyscraper as much as 01812.

 For me, I really dig Those also...and A little ain't enough...hell I dig most of all his solo stuff. The Spanish version of YR was kinda kooky  but Thought They were fun records. Not as ballsy as the early stuff With the VHs, but they just oozed Dave, ya know. That MFr was the coolest cat around for a long, long time.

Those were good times... damn good times... :D

Hagar would never come back without Mikey (who is the greatest guy ever)...and EVH isn't playing ANYTHING without his son...so, let's all thank Wolf for keeping Hagar away...another great thing the kid is doing!

...AND let's not forget that the Red Rocker told EVH to FUK OFF 8 months ago...in the most public way possible...that isn't soon forgotten amongst the brothers...

I don't, know, there is a very strong rumor around the hollywood area that Sam is Back, I agree though, I dont think Sam would come back without Mike.

This is an interesting rumor...seems i read an article/interview recently with Sam. He was asked about his current relationship with Ed, and the "b-day tweets", etc. Whilst he wasn't asked specifically, best i recall, if he'd go back if invited (w/or w/o Mike), Sam did say he was old enough to let all the old shit go, and get along with Ed, being happy and civil, or something to the effect.

Seems I also remember Ed posting something on the EVH fanboy FB page recently along the lines of Wolfie and/or the "fans" wanting Ed to jam some of the Hagar tunes. I think it was a picture of his Steinberger stating he needed to knock the dust oft...

or, i could've had a bourbon induced episode....and imagined all of that :dunno:

Remember back in the 5150 days all the interviews on MTV. Seems like Sammy and Ed were actually good friends.
They would go into their BOCEPHUS MODE. :D
Read something along the line back then that Sammy is a friend where Dave wanted to be the whole band alone.
Sounds about right.

And, it is close enough to the weekend...and fuck it. At work, enjoying the spirits on Cinco....and some Cabo Wabo (EVH style)

As a guitarist I never got these debates. Who cares about the singer? It's all about The Man, always was and always will be.

Edit: I mean it's the only reason they were signed in the first place. Ted Templeman was completely blown away by Ed's thing. Yes they had other strong parts but that's nothing compared to what Ed was doing. And it wasn't just the "whole package" thing where Ed was the bright light.

If that's how it worked, Allan Holdsworth would be king of the hill ... and Ed would agree.

Allan was signed before VH so yeah he got his contract. Not sure what your point is. Perhaps some producer was also blown away by Holdsworth too....so...eh?

Yeah, Holdsworth was signed ... and playing to dive bar for 50 people. Show me one person who's not a guitar geek who can name one song or album of his. Point is he's one of the best ever and yet toils away in obscurity. It takes a little more than being a good guitar player.

I think Eddies rhythm playing during the Sammy era was on FIRE! Personally I think that was Ed at his finest and the best playing of his career. I also love the old Van Halen stuff with Dave. I just see it as two completely different bands because the music was so different....

Sammy's not going back without Mike. Not going to happen.
I would love to see Dave tour with the original DLR band.
Eat 'em and smile was an AMAZING tour! Skyscraper was a cool CD,
but the tour without Billy was lacking.
0U812 was by far the weakest of the Van Hagar CDs, but still had its moments.
I love all the versions of VH. I even liked VH3 with Gary. I actually think
that's a better CD than OU812. The tour was good too.
I've found it pretty difficult to be a fan of Ed's for a long time.
I really don't think he gives a shit about his fans.
It doesn't change the way I feel about the music or the impact its
had on my playing. I'm very happy that he seems to be healthy
these days though. I'd rather see Ed be friends with Sammy and Mike
and not play together than see them all together just for the money.
When you watch that Live Without A Net show it just seems like they
were all so happy. That's what makes it fun to watch. Without that
chemistry.....what's the point? If it works out, I'd like to see ONLY
Van Hagar songs. No early VH, no Sammy solo songs. We've all seen
enough of both. This will be the last shot to play those songs. Play as many as you can!

Yes. We could be talking about 2 different things. Getting signed then what you do afterwards. Allan is a great guitar player and got signed because of it. Obviously he hasn't made much money because I guess there's not much of an audience for him. And I agree that VH was successful because of the whole package but what I was referring to was how Templeman was adamant to get Ed signed and on record. Even Gene was trying to pry the brothers away. Seemed like it was always like that, that Mike and Dave were always somewhat expendable, as in the brothers would still do what they've always done. IDK, it's a long complicated subject.

Lost me a bit on that one but there's some chops that get to me on it.
