Ok...School me on Brass Blocks for a Floyd Rose

Give me input and information and what is the best one to buy (L-shape or another)?

I bought the medium sized one from FU (Floyd Upgrades) for my Charvel So-Cal. Not the L shaped one. That wasn't available at the time yet.
Increased sustain and a bit of girth/body to the tone.

They did become quite expensive though later on. Shipping to Europe is a bitch with many of such articles ($39 for a pickup magnet, no thanks.)

I put one in a Jackson Adrian Smith and the guitar definitely sounded a little more articulate, made a difference for sure.

I have them in most of my guitars. I have an L-shaped one in one of my EBMM EVHs, which is a pain in the butt because, with the block in place, you can no longer access that tiny allen bolt at the base of the whammy bar (the very bottom of it). I think more brass is better but, unless you can do everything with your whammy bar from above the bridge, don't block your access with an L-shaped one.

They can. If, for example, your stock block is 37mm and you put a 42mm one in there, then it's probably gonna bump the back of the cavity and you won't be able to go all the way down.

Anyway, here are photos of what I was talking about. In this one you can clearly see the access to the small allen bolt under the arm.

And here's the L-shaped, which blocks access.

Why do u need access to the Allen bolt? Never used it in 27 years of playing. Not being a smart ass.

The normal brass big block is about twice the size of the standard block. I think the L-shape is just overkill.

Agreed. And as soon as you put on the L shaped block, Murphy's law states that you will need access to the trem arm holders screw. And putting on the trem block is a chore, so imagine going thru all that just to need to take it off.

I had one from Floyd upgrades . Unplugged the guitar rang really nice + sustain . Plugged in the notes had a softer attack , which I did not care for . I put the stock back in.

I had the same experience, but that was on my lower tuned guitars witch i play heavy stuff on. Went back to stock also. But in my regular tuned guitars, it was not as apparent, so i left it in. A bit more sustain and smoothness.

Not really a big difference for me.

Oh and i did notice a certain frequency that was more prone to feedback with my lower tuned guitars, was annoying as hell.

Make sure you get the right size! I accidentally bought a 42mm for a guitar that fits 37mm.
