I would stay away from the SD distortion

I have had some experience with Rio Grandes and was very impressed with all of them, I have tried the BBQ, Tallboy, Crunchbox and Punchbox liked them all.

I just put a Anderson H3+ in my ESP Eclipse (mahogoney body and neck with a maple top) Sounds really killer, I have a H1 coming for the neck in a day or two. The H3+ sounds pretty killer, I can send you a sound clip if you would like to hear it (just PM me your email). A lot of people said the H3+ would be too dark but I think it sounds great.

I have good recording equipment so I can get you a quality clip.

This. I have the exact same pickup in my Anderson Drop Top (mahogany body/maple top) and it sounds terrific.

If the goal is just to demo rigs with a passive pickup and not to necessarily satisfy your own tone requirements, I'd say just slap a JB/59' set in the LP and be done with it. That's the combination that probably the greatest number of folks will be able to relate to...

Sorry Mark, but I'm one that doesn't care for all that gain you play with. I think you're a great player, but all that pick & string noise is way too distracting for me. Plus that damn gate that's always exploding open and crashing shut just makes it worse for me. In your favor though, me being a pro foh & monitor guy and backline tech for many years doesn't help me though, as I have pretty damaged my hearing by not only listening equally to what's right, but also what's wrong. Crackles, pops, fizzes, farts, it all jumps out at me to the point of being distracting sometimes.

Judging by your guidelines, it seems to me you're looking for a passive pickup that's just like an active, and there just isn't many that can do that. You'd have a much better love for passive pickups if you just change a few amp controls when you switch to your passive equipped guitar.

I'm going to try a set of Aldrich pickups in the LP. I want something that I can demo with and try some different things. I actually have crunch settings, not just high gain stuff. I prefer the high gain stuff because well, that just what I am into. I realize I can't make everyone happy.

Oh don't say that! YOU make me happy, I love your fluidness, vibrato, and right hand accuracy. The noise and stuff is just a bi-product the high gain that you like. In live setting with your band, it's a null issue anyway so rock on!!
