Steve (Velcro-Fly) brought his over to my house and I thought it sounded amazing!! Not a hard rock amp but incredible plexi-type tones!!

I made my point without being an arse and it moved to a more positive place. Much better than how it was left over 2 years ago I think.

Dude, I hate negativity, it just sucks the life blood out of ya......I have no place for it in my life.

I will add something in that I noticed about the old part of this thread. Ed Degenero didn't know me at all back then and his comments and his non-judgemental open-minded attitude are a perfect example of the guys professionalism.

Wasn't really talking about you.

I agree wholeheartedly with your post above. I also think you've gotten a pretty warm reception around here since you joined.

Glad you've experienced the success you have.

Holy crap old thread

After speaking with people that own Alan's amps I will man up and say I had it all wrong............dont blame the equipment but blame the Ford fans :D After reading about Alan's work on vintage marshalls I figured it out he was not like the other builders over there.

MAn no kidding about past threads coming back :scared:

lol.....I couldn't agree more. I have a never ending battle with the phone calls from guys wanting amps to sound like RF. I just pass them off to a Dealer and tell to buy a Two-Rock or something more suited to that whole thing. It's not worth the headache. It's not like a competent player can't get those tones out of an OD-2, it's just not my thing so I don't optimise the amps like that.

I just reconditioned an old Jubilee this week that hadn't been powered up in 15 years. I also rebuilt a 2 channel JCM-800, which is an amp I never really cared too much for, but this particular one happened to be a really great sounding one. I was convinced before I opened it up it had been modded, but it was bog stock.
I don't do too many repairs and rebuilds these days, but I'll always make time for old Marshall, Vox, Fender, TW and Dumble work.
I'm glad I can be a bit more selective these days.

Thanks bro. I appreciate the kind words.

Well best get to bed, an OD-2 with no main board in it yet will be calling me at 5.30am.

We carry them if anyone wants to come give them a play.

And they are the bees knees. ;)

Wicked good amps, and the builder is a great guy as well. Got to spend a few hours bs-ing with him. Knows his stuff.

Alan,
Dude just get my OD2 fixed up and ready to come home. :D I should have never sent it away because I miss it more than I can explain. The OD2's gain channel is unbelievable. Killer tone.

Hey Greg ! Sounded pretty fricken good through that cab of yours too..that was the first time I was able to run it into a 4x12...Did I have the Hamer Vector with me too?

I will say that you need to hear the OD2r that took its place though - its not a hard rock amp per se either, but actually has more gain on tap and a different feel (or so it seems).

Need to hook up soon with Mr. Hawkey over at your place soon :m17:

This was actually a pretty clever way to bump an old thread to promote an amp brand, well done sir. :D

Amplifire owned one for a little while and i got to play it. I forgot which model it was. When i boosted it with a MIJ Boss SD-1 i thought it had an incredible lead tone. It just sang and was very focused yet sweet. Without the boost it was more of a plexi vibe as far as gain is concerned, not so much pure tone.

It's not a metal amp and it just didn't sound or feel like a Marshall. I thought it had more in common with an old Boogie Mark IIC+ if anything. For leads i really liked it but it wouldn't be my choice for hard rock riffin. Lark Street Music in Teanack NJ carries them i believe. I don't think their prices are really that out of line considering what some of those idiots on TGP pay for an amp.

Definitly a cool amp, and for leads i have to say it was one of the best amps I've played in some time, but the MIJ SD-1 really put it over the top.

Yeah it's actually amazing how different his amps feel though when you are playing them. I was shocked.

Every players tone's in his fingers ultimately. The amp is just a tool to help him realize it. Some work better than others for every player but you will always sound like you at the end of the day. This is the problem with GAS...a lot of guys don't realize that.
I had a guy comment about a video clip I had and said how good the amp sounded and asked which CA model it was. It was a fly in gig in the UK and I was using a TSL-100 combo. I didn't like how it felt at all, but I still sounded like I always do....for good or for bad......lol....
Wise words.

I see your meds haven't kicked in yet.  Thanks for increasing my YouTube video hits.

Cheers for the derailment guys. With all respect, youtube clips of folks playing in a house where you can hear the strings acoustically over the amp doesn't really cut it with me. Sorry....... At least show clips of yourself playing in a live situation.
I want to hear your playing and tone in a musical situation, I don't care about the genre. I appreciate all styles, but I've always found guitar aerobics in front of a webcam rather lame and pointless.

Anyway, music is art and art is not a competitive sport.

I guess I should just stick in the CA area. It's just a little too anarchaic for my liking out here....lol...

Carry on without me guys.....

I had an OD2-100 for a short while. I was hoping it would be the Dumble / Marshall hybrid I've been searching for, but I didn't really bond with it. It was too boomy in the low mids and strident in the highs for my ears. I wouldn't mind trying a Revo though...
