Ok.. this probably has been discussed before.. OD question..

I've tried a bunch of ODs over the years. I like the TC MojoMojo and my all time fav is the tried and true TS9.
 
I've been through a bunch of them. I like the Maxon 808, SD-1 and Barber Direct Drive.
 
Transparent is a funny word.

However, make sure you try a Fulltone OCD. It's fuckin' righteous.
'Next in line is my BB Pre.

But for smooth, "transparent" OD? Can't beat the Fulltone IMHO, YMMV.
 
Fulltone Fulldrive was the best smooth OD I've tried. Sounded amazing as a clean boost and just as an incredible sounding OD over the clean channel.
 
For a transparent OD maybe the maxon 820 would be a better choice than the maxon 808.
 
Suhr ISO Boost. It's the boost portion of the Suhr Koko Boost.
 
Transparent, try a seymour duncan pickup booster. It's not an OD, but the inherent nature of an overdrive (hi, I'm going to clip the shit out of your signal) kinda takes it out of the transparent realm.

A TS9 is far from transparent, but a stock one works well with many amps because it narrows the frequencies a bit (tightens things up). Different amps like different drives, your best bet may be to try several from different friends and see what you like.
 
I've tried the Bogner Uberschall and Ecstasy Red pedals.
Didn't care for the Uberschall at all.
The Red was quite surprising, and offered a good amount of tonal variance.
I like the Red a lot.

I'm really interested and waiting for the new Egnater 'Overdose' and 'Holy Driver'.
 
I dunno, most ODs typically color a little (sometimes for the better) I like Barber Direct Drives (high and low) and TS808 Pro, usually gain down and volume up.
