On the hunt for the smoothest OD out there - help!

Hey guys

I'm not even sure if what I want exist, but I haven't given up hope. I'm looking for an OD that will turn my leads into the most smooth sounding, liquidy, violin-like tone ever. I wouldn't use it for everything, just when the mood calls for it. I want something stupid thick and lush. The nature of the gain has to be the important part here I think, considering I have OD pedals with EQ options and still haven't found what I'm looking for. A compressed tone would be fine too, as long as it nails what I'm looking for.

So...steer me in the right direction!

Thanks guys!

Matt

Hmm, sounds like you want something nice and boutique. First thing that came to mind is a Carl Martin Hot Drive N' Boost. I've heard clips of one before and I was pretty floored. Forgot where I saw it, but it was a gear review in Swahili or something.

I'll keep looking.

You might be right about the boutique thing. Right now I'm trying to search out BK Butler Tube Driver clips to find the sound in my head. I'll check out the Carl Martin as well. Thanks!

To me, that sounds like an Eric Johnson style tone. Old marshalls, and a Tube Driver?

Fromel Death Is Gain. Fromel really has his own thing going on. His pedals are very cool. The D.I.G. smooth smooth smooth.

The Carl Martin sounds really good, lots of tone. Not sure if it has the gain or thickness on tap that I want but it might react well with high gain amps to get me what I want. I might just buy one.

What else we got? I'm on a pedal kick, willing to buy tons right now lol.

You can buy me a B.K. Butler Tube Driver if you'd like! I could certainly use one.

Get one for yourself while your at it.

Man, I've tried lots of boxes trying to get what you are looking for. Here's what I use and to me it's the best booster I've ever had...

BIYANG-OD-8-X-OVERDRIVE-SWITCH-CHIPSET-OPTION-/290446799952?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item439ffa7450">https://cgi.ebay.com/BIYANG-OD-8-X-OVERD ... 439ffa7450</a>

In the warm mode it is the tone you described. I bought 2 of them just to have 1 for backup.

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately the clips on their site don't sound smooth to me. I'd have to track on down before buying.

I have a friend who uses a Carl Martin HB into a twin reverb, its smooth as glass.
that would be a good choice as was stated
I have a pile of boost boxes here, and none of them are as smooth as that

The warm mode definitely sounds good. It's not exactly what I'm looking for but getting closer. Added to shopping list! Thanks man!

I personally like a lot of the MI Audio stuff for what you are describing.
Have you thought about adding a Barber Tone Press to your arsenal for the violin like sound

I think this is the same pedal without the the chip switch option and there are some clips too...

I've been looking at those recently. I dig their pickups a lot. Are the pedals any good?

You can use a BB Preamp, lower the treble on the pedal and raise the bass.

I got the Biyang version off Ebay before GFS started selling these. If it is in fact the same pedal, I much prefer it over any stock or modded TS-9, Boss SD-1, Lovepedal Eternity or any of the BB boxes.
