one more 6550 - el34 comparison clip(s)

I dont have a speaker balance control so I cant go to the side that has no reverb. both sound beyond great but I would love to compare em. both have the 6550 bias cricuit too. ?
 
Hey Jerry, bias circuit changed to el34 as well. i think i prefer the EL34's.;)

I like them Both. :rock: I can definitely hear a difference but Id be willing to bet that you can feel the difference when playing the amp loaded with 6550's vs el34's or should I say that I most definitely could when I tried it. It's hard to describe but for lack of better words 6550's felt glassier and less forgving. El34's feel right. Well that's just my 0.02!! :rock:

I prefer the el34s, but if I didn't have the two clips to compare, I wouldn't care or even notice.

Awesome test, and great tone! I preferred the sound of the 6550, it seemed to have a broader frequency response. Really cool to hear a solid Marshall tone with different power tubes, thanks!
 
EL34's are the tubes I love the most.

The only thing you're missing in the leads is the Phase 90. ;)

You got a set of 6ca7's laying around? I'd like to hear those compared to el34s.
 
You got mad skills bro. Great A/B. I too prefered the depth and beef of the ELs but damn the 6550 sounded really nice too. I think in certain amps the 6550s would be better suited over El34s. Maybe the XTC or Diezels?
 
Fuck me. Where's my Spandex and EVH sneakers. That was shit hot Mark. It is certainly a toss up from 34's to 6550's with the 6550's being a little more glassy, but great sounding, nevertheless.

You my friend, have definitely got it nailed and perfected.....mods and playing ability.

the 6550 do sound good but the "in hands" factor is there with the EL34's. ;)
