Well, you always have the option to not react to items that you think are overpriced ;)

Re: Oooh I see your (*you're*) selling something in classifieds…

That is USED. but your price is higher than EVERYWHERE ELSE I can buy it used, with a return policy.

Gimme a BREAK man, your (*you're*) asking way too much and you know it. If you DONT want to sell it, then don't post it up.

If you want to just clog up the classifieds with USED gear that is OVERPRICED, then STOP.

Did things change with the classifieds policy?

I'm seeing posts there with less than 50 and no pics.

I saw a VH4 ad for $3000 with no pics and 8 posts.

A new point of laziness not to bother with even a shitty frontal cell phone pic (which disguises an amp's condition more than it illuminates already imo).

I can't stay away and not read the classifieds though, for entertainment if anything.

Agreed.

A few years ago I used the Classifieds here for sourcing a lot of gear I wanted or wanted to at least try out. At this point, I go to TGP or I buy new. I'm certainly not going to send some noob 85% of retail for a USED item - often with a non-transferable warranty - because said noob claims it's "dead mint with less than 10 hours of play time" and includes a couple of grainy pics that demonstrate absolutely nothing in terms of the actual condition of the item.

There are only a limited number of people I would deal with on this site, and they're not the ones posting up the Classified ads you describe in your post.

It's too bad - the Classifieds here used to be great.

It also seems you don't need to follow the rules like posting pics in the thread, no links, no links to auctions, a price even if you're looking to trade. As for over-pricing, yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. Not to mention those "Feeler" threads.

I have to disagree. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Lots of great deals on really cool gear on here and on the Internet in general these days. A uberschall metal grill for 1400? Great price...saw a Cae preamp which you don't often see on the bay....scored an Engl a fireball 100 for cheap myself last week. In my perspective I have to resist temptation. Alot of stuff I would like at great prices. ..

Agreed. I see people selling overpriced or FAKE gear (chinese rip off xotic pedals for example) at high prices and it annoys the shit out of me.. sometimes I even send them a note telling them their gear is WAY overpriced. (it is rare but I have in the past ) In some instances, more than NEW items!! Regardless of whether or not we can just ignore it and move on, people need to realize how ridiculous their listing is and that they have zero common sense. I'm glad someone said what we are all thinking.

Noticed a very unique guitar that was recently for sale, now for sale again at a higher price by someone else.

Maybe there should be a limit on classified sales unless you pay to be a dealer? Have a section for dealers that does not come up unless specifically clicked on?

The easy thing would be to just block the person, since they only post sale ads and buddy bumps :)

I spaced and bumped an add (possibly like the first time ever) in less than 24 hours last week and the "sand in the vagina squad" came crawling out of the wood work instantly... :gethim:

Like anything else in life........ you have honest and dis-honest. As a amp collector ive seen them both, and yes the bullshit far outweights the gold, but the proper research should be done to prevent yourself from being screwed. Absolutly people think everyone else is stupid when they list this shit, but you cant judge someone because there a "noob" or new too the site. Its tough

You're one of the few I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Giles.

I like your OCD to keep gear clean.

Craigslist is worse. You get people that buy things and legit just don't understand retail values. This happens even more so in smaller cities where people buy things from a local music store for a lot more than they can be found online and then they post the used prices as still more than online. I don't understand how people either A. can't look up prices around the net before posting a price. or B. know their price is too high but think others can't look up the prices online. Sure there's the aim high start high then haggle theory but when you buy an Epiphone LP for $750 and use it for a year or even 6 months, you aren't getting close to that if you sell it. In fact, when you walk out of the store, the value goes down immediately.

I made a rant similar to this about my local CL market. People listing Faded LP Studios for $800-900 and Mesa cabs are never listed for less than $650. It's ridiculous. Colorado is home of the $500-$600 Marshall 1960 cab on CL too lol.

Not a day goes by that a person posts on craiglists "Vintage Marshall half-stack", only to be referring to a Marshall MG100 and with an asking price that is more than the price of a new one.

What I don't get is guys, some on this forum are guilty, that list something here for say 2900 then on Craigslist for 3100, then on other forums for 2500.
Then they get pissed when you try to haggle.
The worst in my opinion are the assholes that just rape the forum for "deals" and 90% of their posts are them hawking their overpriced shit.

If I can buy it used from the guitarcenter website and have 30 days to take it back, AND it's cheaper there is no way in hell I'm buying it from you.

Do your goddamn research and adjust your sell price accordingly.
Trying to pawn off a shitty Strat for 40% more than it's worth to anyone anywhere is just bullshit.
Some people that know better are not doing the right things.

+1

My EXACT argument on the local gear swap page haha.
