I think that people list things at ultra high prices in hope that, eventually, some un-knowledgable person will come along and buy without doing any research. I guess that if you don't really care if it sells you can do that.
When I was looking for a Furman PQ6, there were two on ebay, one for $675 the other $440. I got mine in a deal for less then half of $440(thanks to MetalPhoenix!), let alone $675. A year later they're both still on ebay, lol. Oh, but the $675 is now $600, PRICE CUT!
When I was looking for a Les Paul trad pro ll, there was one on ebay in the color that I wanted, for $2000. $1 more than the $1999 GC price, + shipping, lol. I waited and eventually got what I wanted for $1200, same guitar, same condition.
