Operation: Mindcrime

One of my all time favorites that I rarely listen to because ideally it is to be played front to back and I don;t usually have that kind of time. Ironically, I just listened to it last night while soldering cables...it holds as well as anything ever recorded. Awesome album.

I love Queensryche! My brother and I saw their semi-recent tour when they announced the Operation:Mindcrime II album. It was a treat because we had no idea they were going to play the entire Mindcrime as a set along with another set of their classics. It was a treat for sure!

A lot of people give them shot these days, but they're all in their mid-40s or so, and still playing 20+ song sets with elaborate stage set-ups and theatrics.

I do think that Rage for Order is right up there with it, when it came out, I'd never heard anything like it, then saw them perform it flawlessly live and it changed everything for me

I agree 100% In fact, I wasn't totally knocked out by by Mindcrime when it first came out, for the simple fact that it WASN'T Rage for Order. Of course, after a few listens to Mindcrime I realized I was in the presence of one of the greatest hard rock/metal albums ever created.

I do like the guitar tones on that record. It's funny it's never mentioned when guys here talk about 80's tones but I much prefer the sounds they got on Mindcrime than Lynch or DeMartini etc.

I think the tones FIT that recording, but definitely not my favorites. The lead tones sound so thin and buzzy.

To this day, I find Empire to be one of the BEST produced releases of all time. The studio workmanship and producing is to me, just bloody awesome!! Just my 2 cents... I love the ambiance, the room feel, the clarity and the detail - to me it is an excellent reference CD to base a lot of others on.

Agreed, but I love the rhythm tones, they are not super-saturated, but meaty, percussive and the perfect amount of gain for the song

One of my favorite albums. I must have seen Queensryche about 13 times over the last 23 years. I have not been a big fan of their stuff after Empire, but have caught them on tour many times. It seems they are the opening act for everybody. I would love for them to come out with some good tunes.

Still listen to it on regular basis. It's one of the very few that I do that to from my teeth cutting days of the 80's. Saw them twice on that tour and wore out my VHS copy of LIVEcrime.

Seems like it was Marshalls at first, with MusicLord cabs, then they had some racks built with Soldano pre's and pwr amps with a lot of goodies in between, they used those through Empire, When I saw them on the "Hear in the now Frontier" they were back to Marshalls.
When DeGarmo left, it went through an almost constant lineup change, at the last show, Wilton and the new guy were using B-52's(!??)
I'm not sure what it is at the moment
The Mindcrime album was their live racks used in the studio (Soldano) I remember DeGarmo talking about how the racks enabled them to have reverb and delay tails stay intact when they switched channels
I believe Bob Bradshaw built the switching system for their racks
Been a long time, I'm a little foggy on the info, but I think thats right

Agree about the album. One of the best ever! So is Empire. Mindcrime was Geoff Tate's baby, and Empire was DeGarmo's. They're both classics with great guitar tone and songwriting. Been loving the Ryche since I was about 8!

RFO was so different from anything I had heard, I had the same reaction when OM was released. OM seemed more conventional from a song stanpoint, but in the context of a concept album, it was a thing unto itself.
I guess I would call RFO far less normal
Great stuff, those guys were amazing

Geez,i remember seeing them open for Metallica,in support of this album/CD. I never liked them until i listened to
the CD,start to finish with headphones.

Been listening to this album most of the day again, along with doing some Star Wars EU reading. Good stuff.

Looking at my japanesee pressing of Queensryche's first EP on vinyl right now. Found it in mint condition at a small record store I used to frequent. Very cool.
