I'm wanting to build a rack rig around a JMP-1 preamp, and am weighing the pros/cons of an effects unit. I really don't want to spend more than $600 (not including midi foot controller) and had a few candidates in mind...a TC G-Major2 is a possibility, and I was also pondering an Eleven Rack or POD HD Pro X as an effect-only unit (that could provide a backup preamp in case the JMP-1 died onstage)...looking for any informed opinions in regards to this scenario, and what other things I should consider...what say you? :)

Digitech GSP1101.
I use mine for exactly the same way you intend.
It has a lovely Lexicon reverb and some great delays.
I love it.

In case of my JMP1 failing I've programmed a separate set of presets into the GSP.
You can download cabinet IR's into the GSP and they transform the unit.

Interestingly, I've owned the GSP1101/C2 on two separate occasions, once as the basis to my whole rig using the models, and the other time in the loop (4CM) of my 5150III. The GSP is able to suitably control your JMP1 patches via midi?

I control the GSP from the JMP1 not the other way around.
My GSP is in the loop of the JMP1.

Digitech have a setup for it in the handbook so it bypasses the preamp and uses the effects alone.

I have rack that is a TriAxis + Torpedo CAB as my amp, in the insert loop of my G-System.

Also, I have a JMP-1 with a JFX-1 (the speaker sim outs sound good, sounds better if I use the CAB). The JFX-1 is very limited compared to other options.

You may want to wait as Fractal is coming out with an effects-only floorboard...not sure on the price.
