Hey guys,

So my singer has been playing on a borrowed original early 80's vertical input 2203. It's a killer sounding head, modded to take KT-88's.
She hates the thought that she may not be able to duplicate its sound, but would like to be able to buy one for herself. I'm trying to help her locate one.

There was an '81 with FX loop going for about $1100+ shipping in the classifieds.
I also see a reissue (2007) 2203x going for $865 on another forum.

Here are my questions-
1. Any opinions on general tonal similarities/differences between the two?

2. Are the originals hit or miss or were they fairly consistent?

3. About how much would one expect to pay to mod the amp to take KT-88's?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks brothas

JCM 800 KK. It's ugly but sounds great, and comes stock with KT88's

What Shane said. We turned that thing on and it was if all the got sucked out of the room. Good luck. Splawn will have that effect too.

2203x isn't bad imo. The one I had was a little brighter and slightly less bottom end than my originals but part of that might have just been newer components.

I liked having a factory loop as well, I had to have loops added to my originals.

Can't speak for the KK but it's built like a JVM and doesn't have a loop, the 2203x has a loop and is built old school style if you care about that aspect. Some don't but some do...
