So I was planning on getting a DSL100 but I came across a RM100KH w/cab for a really good price and I've always kind of been interested in the MTS thing. I can get a DSL anytime as they are common as anything anyway.

Just curious to hear some of you RTer's opinions on the whole module thing to those of you who have played them.

I was looking at some of the modded modules and these ones seemed to interest me the most

Benzin (VH4)
Markus (Mark IIC+/IV?)
Shiver (Shiva)
C-Watt (Hiwatt.. DR103 & Page Custom)
59RR (JMP & JCM)
Grailtone (EVH Brown sound)

I had the Egnater dual channel stuff but did have the RM100 converted to dual channel. The RM100 was great tone wise, heavy as hell and very flexible taking any kind of tubes with biasing conveniently located on the back. You can safely pull the outer pair of tubes (believe it is the outer pair) for 50 watts. The problem is getting a bunch of modules and constantly swapping and tweaking and less playing   other than that they have good tones. The effects loop sucks but the nice thing about the RM is it has parallel and/or series loop.

I had an RM100. The clean tones are great. It was the most noisy high gainer I've had, and was very unreliable. Had it in the shop 3 times in less than a year. Move on to a Framus Dragon and couldn't be happier.

MTS totally cured my amp GAS. I've been using a couple of RM100s for about 4 years now. Reliability has been good for me...only blew a couple of fuses in one of them once. The work that the modders have been doing in the last few years stepped these amps up a level. I can't imagine spending $3-4000 on another amp that has limited tones compared to what the MTS can do for a lot less money. The rest is in the fingers. :)

As I already mentioned in another thread, volume has to be up on the modules to get it cooking and sounding as full as the real amp it replicates. It is loud. It is heavy. It sounds great though. Never had reliability issues with mine beyond a fuse or two.

Effects loop sucks bollocks.

I was hard core mts for years. In the end, I founda Friedman modded Ampeg & a Rhodes modded Rectifier that packed a whole lot more punch and immediacy in the attack. The mts seemed to have a more distant sound to it, as compared to the other amps which were right up in my face.

I sold a huge mts rig which yielded a crapload of cash

Still got 2 MTS in my amp arsenal. The RM100 was great for getting different tones, and the RM50 combo was convenient for band practice and jams without lugging a big rig.
they're great for what they are: being able to get a lot of different tones with the modules.
I got some good modded modules but in the end, my 5153 blows all the MTS out of the water. That's why i'm going to put them up for sale.

oh, it should be mentioned it's been a dead platform for years. There's modders modding, but unless Egnater relaunches another line there is an eventual dead end in terms of product support

That was one reason for my massive sell off. 1)rm100 1)mod50 2) m4's 5)rt2/50's and dozens of modules :D made a small fortune  before the great crash

There a quite a few MTSwhores around.....it can definitely be a money pit.

As Ray mentioned, it perfectly fit my OCD with tweaking and as my playing is completely terrible....I guess it's a good fit for me :-)

I had a massive sell off, down to one amp and a few mods...but bam now back up to 5 amps and more modules by the day...and still thinking about another cab...sigh!

Yes, there's many great tones to be had...I feel the pull to get back in, but I know 1 amp and 2 mods can increase so fast and I'm afraid of the cash I know I'll spend

Cranky, did you ever try the foglifter or MDA board upgrade before you pitched in the towel? I know what you guys mean though.. it is really close to the real deal but sometimes the real deal just does that one thing slightly better. I'd say i might just prefer my jcm800 a tad more than the brahma BUT the cost of an 800 used is not that bad compared to a Bogner or other. For those boutique or 3K + amps, I might sooner pay for a mod or two.

BUT again.... effects loop SUCKS! Don't count on it for live use really and that is where I'm at..

no, I just missed out on the board upgrades- which is part of my curiosity to return

I think I will probably go for it. too cool to have all those tones and not paying $2-4000+ for each one.

I will still get a DSL though eventually :D

what is this upgrade all about?

there's a board that salvation makes that replaces behind the presence & depth circuit. It supposedly brings the punch & clarity!

5 time MTS user.... (Randall and Egnater)....
Fun....but a money pit if you keep chasing the modded modules..
I finally sold my last MTS rig off...bought a Diezel VH4 and had money left over.
But it was a fun chase for sure. :D

I think I have a pretty solid idea of what I want anyway. 4 or 5 should be enough for me

might not get 59RR and Grailtone but rather just get a stock plexi module and a DSL :D

To me? the Friedman modded Brahma.....was one of the BEST TONES you can get....out of ANY amp!!
