Thinking of throwing one in my strat. I would prefer a full size bucker, but I ain't gonna route it. Is the Hot Rails harsh at all ? The sound clips on the site seem pretty smooth to my ears. And how much "chunk" do they have ?

I have had one in my MIM strat for a long time. I really like this pickup, not so good for cleans, but great for gain sounds. It can be a bit bright at times, but that is the nature of the strat bridge position. It splits okay too.

In terms of hotness, I find it hotter than the fullsize JB in my other strat....

I have one in my Tele very warm sounding with a lot of output from the little fella

If you don't want to route, its gonna be hard to beat. real hot, decent balance, splits well,as others have said, sounds like a full size HB, Does NOT sound like a SC at all. Good chunk. - Jim

I spoke to Eddie Money's guitarist after a show and we was playing strats with Hot rails pickups into Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifiers. It sounded awesome. He said that the thing to do was get the neck pickup version and put it in the bridge as the one made for the bridge was not smooth. He sounded great, must be something to it.
