What are people's thoughts on using someone else's pics and descriptions to sell an item. So instead of taking the the time to type your own description of an amp and instead of taking pics of the amp while in your possession, you just copy/paste from a previous sale ad when the item was sold previously.

I don’t mind if there are no changes and it’s a quick flip. However just something doesn’t feel right about it.
If the person has owned it for a long time, I feel like they should show an updated pic and description.

Having said that, I sorta did it once myself about 10 years ago. I bought a guitar and worked out a trade for it before I received it. Someone was looking for that specific guitar so I offered it up, but was clear about everything and did check everything out before I shipped it back out.

Probably not in your best interest to do that. Take the time to do it right the first time. If the potential purchaser finds the original images it may put them off and send up red flags. You must have a cell phone. Snap a quick pic and update with better ones when you have time. There is a reason some people watermark their photos. Not saying in 25+ years of selling gear I have not done it but technology has changed a lot in that time. It's also kinda like being on a dating site, do you want to see a 10 year old photo as the profile or a pic taken within the last month or so?

I agree. I wouldn't do it myself, just asking as someone copy/pasted my narrative and pics from when I sold an amp to them and they used it for their sale of the amp. Just puts me off...at least have your own pics.

I’m ok with it but it would have to be something you just purchased used (like less than a month prior), plus I feel like you need at least a couple pics to actually verify that it’s in your hands. Oh, and you need to disclose that they’re not your pictures as well I think. All that being said I wouldn’t personally do it.

I caught a guy on a FB guitar selling group using pics of one of my guitars (photos were taken in my backyard) while I still had the guitar in my possession. I commented on it and he adjusted his listing pretty quickly to indicate he was not using pictures of the actual guitar

I just recently bought a guitar from here that had pics from the store and thankfully it came in immaculate condition

I personally don't really care but sometimes it makes me a little suspicious.

Depends… most people suck at taking pictures so if the condition is the same and the previous owners pictures are better, I’d rather see the better picture. For example, the music zoo’s pictures are usually good, so if you’re selling a guitar that came from them, post up their pictures along with your own.

That's up to the buyer to decide. Will it hurt the sale? Probably not.

This is a valid point.

Has happened to me several times on reverb. Pics and exact description. Someone did it with my ceriatone gargoyle I sold. I thought it was kind of cheesy and lazy, and rolled my eyes, but whatever. It’s on them if there is issues.

If you disclose it and if the pics are better than you can take, I've done it before but have always included a crappy pic of my own..lol...

Agree with most here. I'd ask the previous seller if they would be ok with it; and the gear better be in the same condition. But I'd still try and take my own pics, as crappy as they may be.

I normally write a small description of my own , then copy the description from
The builder for additional information/ specs etc

I've done it but was sure to make a BOLD note of it in the description.

Using someone else's pics and description seems like they're leaving themselves open for problems. Imagine a buyer claims the item is not as described, and now you don't have an accurate accounting of the condition of the item on the day it was listed. There are predatory buyers out there looking for ways to exploit seller missteps. Then when a problem happens, if you're a seller who cuts corners, you're making it easy for the site to side with the buyer.

Plus, how badly do you want to buy something from someone who can't even do that as a bare minimum? Have they put the same minimal effort into their care of it in the time that they've owned it? What about when it comes time to packing it?
