I sold most of my rig before the holidays to better the kids xmas.

I have not been in a band for a bit and I use amp sims for home practice through the PC so it was not a big deal.

I kept an old cab and am ready to start playing with a band again but I need an amp. I want to get something very cheap until I can save up a bit more for a killer amp that I have my eye on.

So I was hoping some of you guys could chime in with opinions, I understand alot of you are big ballin and buy Blackmachines and Diezel VH4's on the regular   but surely there has to be some low end kings among us?

Anyway I am looking for as low of a budget as possible but still be able to get loud enough rehearse with a band and I like high gain metal. I have found a couple amps that sounded cool under the $200 range so I would honestly like to keep it there.

Bugera, Older Peaveys, Randall, Crate are the most common I have found.

Any input, suggestions?

I liked the Crate Voodoo. Not a bad amp. Peavy XXX? I don't know how much they for these days though.

Ive got an old beat up xxx im gonna sell for cheap. Seriously jacked headshell but it works good and loud as shit. Pm me. Ill sell it cheap but you cover shipping if interested

peavey 6505 or 6534 and they also have the 6505+ and 6534+

Peavey Ultra+ usually goes for around 300. Awesome amp regardless of price

In my experience, the Bugera amps are absolutely the best bang for the buck. You can dial in some crushing tones and get it real loud for what is a very low cost. They can have some spooky problems but that's just like any cheap amp. My vote is Bugera all the way.

Man, I love the Jet city 22H. Those things sound good. You can get them used for around 230. I've seen them as cheap as 200. Both channels sound good and you can get a lot of flavors with an added OD or boost. You should check out fastredponycars demos. Two channels and a loop. I'm probably going ot get one just because. And because the crunch channels sound VERY JCM 800ish.

You don't even need the +. The Ultra is terrific.

+100

Forgot about this one. Played through one back in the day and it is a great amp for the price.

Crate Stealth..nice clean, good loop and a footswitchable boost..2 gain knobs that you can set one a bit higher so it acts like a 3 channel amp. Lee Jackson circuit. I've seen them as low as 149.00 at Guitar Center online..

Other than the others mentioned, the sovtek migs are pretty cheap and nice amps.

I would stay away from Bugera myself. However the V22 does seem to get pretty good reviews....

I totally agree here. I had an Ultra+ head a few years ago. A kick ass amp for sure!

The Migs are no secret anymore. A good one is $500 and up, the Midget is even more. Sort of like the old Traynor YBAs, used to be $300, now $800 and up.

I actually used to have one of these 50w i belive. I never really did much tube swapping but from what tubes it did have I found it sounded good for 80's metal and needed something with more gain on tap.

I think I am going to have to check out of of those Peavey Ultras.

GC has a few Kustom amps for very cheap. Thought about snagging one of them up but want to check around a bit more.

Thanks for the input.

I always put a little boost in front of everything..Stealth was no different. It also was one of the quietest amps I've ever had...

With the budget you have in mind, I'd look at a Peavey VTM. Hard to beat for the money. XXX is great too, but usually go for considerably higher than what you're looking to spend.

I would get a Jet City as well, but remember that it's usually cheaper to replace the unit if it breaks down than taking it to service.
