I am looking to do a smaller setup. I really like the diezel tones, but I am looking to sell it so that I can free up some money to develop my basement to have a jam space so that I can start a band. I have decided to get the Mako Mak4 preamp (just placed my pre-order today). Now comes the other decisions...rack power amps. I am thinking about going solid state because it is cheap, light, and from what I have heard if you get a big 1000 watt or so amp it can really bring the pain  I am just wondering if anyone here has used a big PA power amp to run a guitar cab, and how different does it sound to a mid priced (used) tube power amp.

Also anyone here ever used the Eminence Delta Pro 12a speakers?? I am thinking about getting a couple of them, with boogafunk thiele cabs. I have heard that the Delta pro is similar to the EVM12L, but not as hifi, and a bit warmer. I really like my Eminence Wizards, but I think that the power handling of the delta looks nice (400 watts/speaker).

Any opinions, advice etc would be great!!!

Thanks

Ryan

Zach, of Titan amps, is selling a peavey 60 classic power amp for 200 bucks...Its all tube...

I used to use a samson servo 260 power amp, but that thing overheated like a bitch. It was a nightmare...

I saw that classic 60, but I would imagine that shipping from Texas to Canada would cost more then the amp. I also used to have a Peavey classic 50/50, and that fan was crazy loud.

The power amp that I am looking at specifically is a Carvin DCM1000

The one I was using was 260 watt, and it was samson, which isnt known for their reliability...I imagine a 1000 watt carvin would hold up pretty well. The 260 couldnt stand up to a drummer. It was ridiculous.

I'm pretty close to buying the Mak 4 as well. I have a 2/50/2 already. thinking of gettin ga 2/90/2 to run with that.

At $850 it is a great price for a big four channel preamp. Also all of the Mako clips that I have heard have blown me away.

Part of the reason that I am thinking about a solid state power amp is the wife, and I have been talking about having kids. solid state power sections usually do much better at low volumes, but with 1KW I would be able to open that bastard up when I am jamming, or home alone.
