Optical guitar pickup??

Yeah, the demo is more Mel Bay than Pete Thorn. The concept is kind of cool, but it looks like you can only adjust the volume of each Pole piece. I think the ability to adjust the EQ curve of each pole piece would be better.

the one distortion video they have is definitely not doing them any favors.

I wonder whether this could replace piezos for guitar synth setups?
 
When I read title I immediately thought of those acoustic videos showing the string vibrations. I was surprised to see sawtooth waves on an acoustic just by how you pluck the note.

 
I hate to judge without trying things in person, but seems gimmicky and something that will be useless in 3 years when they stop providing updates (since it's OS based)
 
Jackson used "Lightwave" optical pickups in their Antigravity basses YEARS ago. I never played one and they were expensive as hell, but supposedly good
