Orange Dark or Dual Terror For Home Recording/Small Gigs

I'm looking for a low wattage tube amp head for home recording/small gigs that can be versatile for different styles and also do modern metal in drop B. My band is 2 guitarists including me and we play modern metal.

Was curious about the Orange Terror series, you can see what cabs I have in my Sig below, I have a Line 6 toneport ux-1 already for recording with my computer, was wondering anyones experience with these Orange series, my interest seems to be leaning towards the Dark Terror, Jim Root model and the Dual Terror, and I'm looking at used ones not new. Wondering if either of those 3 would also be loud enough with another guitarist for small shows too. We do have clean parts in some of our songs.
 
clean headroom is probably more an issue on the dark terror

the dual terror is plenty loud for rehearsals and gigging don't have experience with the dark terror ,
the clean won't be pristine either tho at those sorts of levels , based on what you play i'd probably go for the dark terror
 
Based on my shopping a few weeks ago, I decided on the Jim Root Terror over the Dark Terror.

The separate tone controls was one of the big bonuses, and I just plain liked the high gain tone better.

Of course, I went with a Baron Snott Watt instead... so there you go.
 
I'm not a big fan of any of the Orange lunchbox heads.......I sure wouldn't use them for downtuned modern metal. They all have a loose, middy gain structure with a fuzzy edge.

What is your main amp? There are tons of high gain amps out there with effective master volumes.......even a few with silent, emulated outs.

I have had much better success with clean amps and pedals for extremely low volume high gain apps compared to any low watt lunchbox. YMMV
 
I was looking at the little Orange amps a while back. But, like Skrapmetal, I went with a Baron Snott Watt as well. Made in the USA! I've been really happy with it. Cleans are decent. I wouldn't call them great, but they're not terrible either. It does the high gain really well though. With a boost it can get downright nasty. They're certainly worth a look.
 
I have a Dark Terror and REALLY REALLY like it!

So much, that I'd like to sell it to actually get a TH30 possibly, instead. I like the idea of getting even more power from the TH30, (it's 7/15/30 w switchable).
However the Dark Terror sounds good at 7w, and great for home use, when you don't want to annoy everyone if people are home...and when in 15w mode loud enough to play with a loud drummer.

I vote Dark Terror! (and you could buy mine!)
