A few months ago I tried an Orange OR120 from the early '70's and it sounded great, way better than any of the modern oranges I've tried, but one thing that surprised me is that it was not that loud given it's wattage (120 watts). I've played 40 and 50 watt amps that I remember being louder. Is this normal? Also, I was wondering how the new OR100 or Dual Dark would compare? Those are the only modern oranges I have yet to try.

The only Orange I've really had gas for is the OR100. I've never really been interested in orange until this amp. I'm not sure about the volume deal, mine is wicked loud, although it does have a very usable sweep under 9:00 for lower vol. I'm not sure how it compares to an older OR120 unfortunately, but this amp has made me curious for sure. I have a couple little vids of mine, nothing great, but maybe u can get an idea.

Wow, that sounds incredible. I'm really fascinated by Orange amps.
I'm not sure anything sounds better than that for heavy stuff.

Thanks man!
you own something that I place right up there for the heavy stuff though. I love my triple too. :D

For one of the newer oranges check out the or50h, simply loved they clips I have heard. Vintage oranges seem a bit hard to find in my experience.

Every older Orange I have played has been quite underpowered or overrated in power. I played an OR120 not long ago that sounded killer. Much tighter, less fuzzy than a modern Orange but it was no louder than a good 30-40 watt amp.

Erock...On those OR100 vids it made sense you were using a boost as I didn't get anything like that sound out of one on a demo. How do you like the Flux pedal, the new one with the built in EQ seems pretty cool.

Interesting that you had a similar experience to me. I also agree about it being tighter and less fuzzy, but still has that orange growl. How did the OR100 compare? My main issue with the modern oranges I've played is that they're too compressed and to me almost sound like I'm hearing a recording of an amp. The OR120 was WAY more open and raw.

I have the OR120 that was the reissue from the 1990's. . Mine is VERY VERY loud. .I have a lot of 100 watt and 50 watt Marshalls and it's up there with those for sure. I'd be curious as to how the 2 compare

I just remembered that the OR120 I played that was underpowered was a 90's reissue.

The flux is really cool man, I like it a lot, but it's one of those less is more pedals. Have to be careful of levels because you can go overboard quick. I would like to try the the eq version eventually, but the controls are pretty sufficient for me already.

One thing about the OR100 too, it's got a gain boost and global boost on the back, that you can oh activate with the fs. It gives it quite a kick in the ass.

I just bought a TH30. I think it sounds great (and it's pretty darn loud to boot). I play it through a Laney 2x12.

Erock, I have an OR100 I might be persuaded to sell if your itch becomes too great to resist. Mint condition with roadcase as well as a Black Magic (Switchdoctor footswitch) to operate the channels & the 2 gain stages. :)

Edit: I am an idiot, please disregard. I thought you had the OR120.

:D thanks for the offer man, but I have one, unless you're talking about an OR120?

I tried the OR100 today and thought it sounded awesome, way better than the rockerverbs and thunderverbs. I AB'ed with a PRS Archon and Triple Rectifier, and liked it better than the Archon and thought it smoked the triple rec. It's tough to say how it compares to a OR120 without having the two amps side by side, but the OR100 was louder than the typical 100 watt amp and seemed brighter and and more growly than the OR120 from what I recall. Still curious about the Dark Terror. Anyone know how that compares?

I played a dual terror 100 through an orange 2x12 with v30s tonite and I thought it sounded incredible! not fuzzy at all. just warm and nice..limited shaping I think it has 3 knobs, gain, tone and volume...but it was fantastic! need a boost for solos though for sure, with the gain tapped I was struggling to get smooth notes out...

Great amps aren't they. I'm surprised the OR is so far under the radar. Did you get to engage either of the onboard boosts? I wish they made those accessible without a footswitch, not sure why they did that, it's quite a difference. My buddy had the dual dark. Very cool amp, but I think he felt it was a bit limited with just the one control on the dark side. Did sound cool though, I wish I got to play it.

I have the tiny one, OR15, and it's fun as hell. Completely destroys the Terrors, Mini Blackstars etc. I'd definitely look into the OR50/100 if I had some extra cash. The Orange sound isn't really my thing for most of what I do, but the OR's are so much damn fun to play.

I didn't get to engage the boosts and didn't even know it had that feature, but it didn't seem like it needed it.

 I have both the Dual Dark 100 & the OR100. Killer amps for sure. I'm not sure which I like better!
