i know these amps are considered high gain amps, but are they capable of full on metal without a boost ?? how do they compare in terms of gain/saturation to that of the 5150's,mesa's and other high gainers out there ?? been thinking of these amps since seeing jim root with stone sour recently, but couldnt tell what all was in his setup other than seeing the orange headshells lol. sorry for the long post just looking for more info on these amps if possible ... youtube clips sound promising, it is just hard to tell from there sound clips. the nearest dealer with one is about 3 hours away so i am looking for info before traveling to try one out

I was thinking about one and tried a couple out when I was shopping for a new head. They can definitely do metal without a boost. A boost would probably tighten it up though. It was darker and muddier than the Mesa I ended up getting, but thinking about it now, a boost might take care of the muddiness I was experiencing. It definitely sounded huge.

kool sounds good. imma have to find some time to check one out. i had a mesa and it was a bit to "tight" sounding for my taste.

a friend of mine has one. It sounded good with EL34s...but when we were tube swapping we tried 6550s & KT88s...WOW! That woke it up!! Maybe that will get you where you want to go! :D

are the original rockerverb 100's tube switchable or is it just the mkII's ?? or am i wrong in thinking there is an original and a newer version ? i definately love the kt88 or 6l6 tubes moreso than the el34's (although i like el34 tone too), and that would be kool to be able to switch between the different types. the main reason ia sk about the differences is because even though i will try out a new one, i will probably buy used to save some cash lol

I've got a 100 and it has the switchable tube option, cool amp for sure.here's a crappy clip with sed el34s
