So I just had my R50 looked at by Friedman and it has 6v6's in it. I think it comes stock with el34's. From what I'm learning the 6v6's are slightly under powered for the amp (as you can tell I'm not an amp techy dude). How would the 6v6's effect the amp's sound vs el34's? The amp sounds good I'm just not sure if I should change out the tubes. Anyone know?

Well there is the fact that the amp was designed with el34's in mind...

obviously the final result is subjective anyway so my advice is to try 6l6/ 6550/ kt88/ and el34 and then decide which is YOUR favorite.

From what i remember, the RV 50 came loaded with 6V6s James. Not sure if you can run EL34s in it,but if you could I would :thumbsup:Does 50 run 4 power tubes??
The website says 2 EL34s,I would put the 34 in there for sure

The all valve, twin-channel Rockerverb Mk II is available as a 50 or 100 watt head.
The Output Valve Selection switch allows the amp to run on 6L6/6550/KT88 on one side or EL34/6CA7 on the other.

Preamp - 4 x ECC83. 3 x ECC81. Output - 4 x EL34 (RK100H) 2 x EL34 (RK50H)

from the orange website. didn't see 6v6 anywhere on their site...

Thanks guys. I bought the amp off ebay earlier in the year and never opened it up till today. When the tubes are shot I'll experiment.

I've seen both tube types in the RVerb 50 over the past few years. I say experiment

Just got a response on the Orange board, the Rockerverb MKI, which is what I have, came stock with 6v6's.

EL34 do not have a lot of bass ..... but that great midrange voice.

6V6 sound quite a bit like a 6L6 ..... but even with the 6V6 being smaller they have more bass in there tonal balance than a 6L6. The overdrive sound of 6V6 is one of my favorites.

The Oranges are some of my favorite amps ..... push that power section to find some great sounds.

New RV50 Mk II has switching options for EL34 or KT88/6550/6L6 tubes; I don't think it comes with 6V6 anymore.

Being in L.A. I imagine you could get one to demo on your casting couch.
That's too bad. I thought the 6v6 version was awesome. Seems the el34 was covered by the Thunderverb and TH series. 6v6 was a nice change of pace but still had "THE" Orange tone.
