Orange Tiny Terror vs. Egnater Rebel?

I used to own a TT, but have never played a Rebel. I'm looking for something to use at home for writing and recording ideas for my new project I have going on. We play hard rock/stoner, etc. so something British sounding is good. The TT would seem like the obvious choice here, but it doesn't hurt to have the versatility and options of the Eggie.

Who has played or owned both?

Haven't owned either but my buddy is endorsed by Orange and I'm a bonifide Egg-head.

Do you need the loop? Do you need 2 channels? If answer to question 1 = yes then the Rebel is an obvious choice. If you're using it simply for recording and don't need the loop the TT is an obvious choice as it is the least expensive and sounds great. Now both camps are releasing 2 channel versions of each amp. Rebel 30 is more aggressively voiced than the 20 + more headroom. Orange is releasing the Dual Terror in Sept. Basically 2 TT's in one.

The TT has less tonal variations than the Rebel. Each sounds dramatically different. What are you looking to accomplish tonally?

Thanks for the replies guys. I have been looking into the Blackstar as well, but no one seems to have just the head in stock.

I really need a no frills British sound for the band, but personally having options wouldn't be a bad thing. It's more of a necessity thing right now since I just sold my JCM 800 and have nothing to write with at the moment.

Well when you figure the difference is just around $100 in cost between the two and you factor in all of the bells and whistles, the Rebel is an obvious candidate. The Egnater distorted tone is much more refined IMO so may or may not work for the stoner rock thing. Course you can hit it with a TS or something and add some hair. I'm not a big fan of EL84's personally. Having the 6v6 option with the Rebel is another cool feature. Not to mention power scaling and a way more interactive EQ.

I say Rebel all the way.

If I had to chose between the 2 I'd take the rebel any day, however not a big fan of either.

BTW I don't think either of them sound anything like Marshall.

What's that Blackstar HT-5? Any clips around? How much are those?

In the tiny amp world, the Rebel pretty much pwns everything, IMO. I'm a heavily biased Egghead though.

Yeah I think I'd like to try the Eggie anyway. Hell, 45 day return policy at MF will work in my favor if I hate it I suppose!

Well I went for the Eggie! We'll see how it holds up. I think I'll dig it. Like I said, this is 100% for home playing, writing, practicing, recording. I need a real solid overdrive and this looks like it can hang. I might take it to practice for the fun of it.

yep, i got to play the Blackstar side by side with the Rebel and then the Tiny Terror the next day, and defenantly liked the Blackstar the most.


i would have bought the Blackstar then and there, but they wouldn't let it go without the cabs.

I played the Rebel today. I thought it rocked! Such a nice ballsy tone is a small package. I LOVED the rhythm tones, and the leads were nice but i thought it could have benefited from a pedal. I have to check out the HT-5. They sold out really fast in my local GC.

It reminded me of every other Egnater I've played. Gain was thick, smooth, ballsy. But you'll want to use your pedal for sustainy leads. What cab are you going to play it on?
