Hello all, I'm a high end guitar guy, got a few custom Jacksons, a Gibson LP Custom, Taylor... I know what makes a good guitar. I love MIJ stuff too, cuz it's that U.S. Made quality not always at that U.S. Made price. Well, I been looking for a 7 string again, and the SK made Loomis in black seems to have stolen my heart over a U.S. Made Suhr 7 string, a few ESP E-2 7 stringers. I'm always so nit picky about quality, wood use, fit and finish. There's GC near me that has had a black Loomis 7 for some time, and every time I go there, I always end up jamming on this thing for an hour, that guitar just feels so damn good in my hands and I gotta say, it looks so damn sexy and I just can't believe it's made in South Korea with a single body piece swamp ash and a nice 5 piece maple neck. I kept trying other more expensive high end 7 strings, just cuz.. you know, that U.S. Made or MIJ stigma, but I kept finding myself gravitating back to the Loomis. I also wanted to try the Zzounds payment for the heck of it cuz it seems like a good deal. First time I ever got won over an import guitar over something more expensive, and I keep wanting to think maybe there'll be something wrong, but the way that one Loomis won me over at the GC... I dunno... Thoughts??? Just wondering what anyone else thinks of these axes, opinions on quality, and what not

Get what you like, because you like it. Having said that, you may want to just pick up the one you play all the time at GC. You never know what you're going to get when you buy sight unseen and that GC guitar just might be an aberration and you'll never run into another one like it.

i have been playing boutique suhr and andersons for a long time.

recently my wife bought me a schecter hellraiser as a travel guitar.

it played and sounded fantastic.

it piqued my interest in schecter.

since then i have added a km6 a hellraiser hybrid 7, a bansee deluxe 7.

they are stellar and played just as well as my friends anderson7 and a few suhr modern 7.

they are super consistant.

i bought em online. set em up and they play great.

the fit and finish is excellent, but not perfect like ta and suhr, but for me at 1/2 to 1/3 the price for the specs that i was looking for they are great.

the sls 7 neck is awesome and takes very little getting used to transitioning from 6 to 7 strings.

the only reason i didnt get a loomis is because of the funky inlays and i prefer an ebony board.

To Oblivion DC: Yea I considered that when playing that one at GC and ordering the one online, but Zzounds does have a return policy. So, if the one I ordered is an absurdity, I guess I can return it and go for the one at GC. I just didn't feel like shelling out a grand on the spot and wanted to try the Zzounds payment plan. Thanks for the reply!

I've had the exact same experience with the Loomis, I have mostly high end guitars and only bought one because I wanted an inexpensive 7 string as my first one to try it out before I spent the big money. I've had two of them now (traded the first one in when the black came out), both were stellar players easily hanging with the more expensive guitars. I've since played much more expensive 7 stringers, and the Loomis is still just a blast to play.

I don't know why they are as good as they are, but no sense overthinking it...passing on a great player because of the pedigree/price is as bad as keeping a high end stinker because it should have been awesome for the money.

Agreed thanks man! Just figured out how to reply to someone's comment here, lol

Had that one and the KM7 as well. Just really well thought out guitars with stellar specs for the $.

Weirdly enough I dumped a few more expensive 7s for mine too. For the $ you pretty much can't beat em. Good luck with Zzounds, I've bought quite a few guitars from them over the last few years and been completely satisfied.

Finally got it and holy smokes! This thing rocks!!! Minus a setup that it desperately needs from being shipped out of Zzounds warehouse, the neck and playability are two favorite things of this guitar

Honestly, the ~$1000 guitars are my favorites. Good enough to be excellent instruments, and not expensive enough that I am super-anal about scratching them. I dont feel bad about high end MIK guitars at all, where I start to feel bad having gear that costs way more because it is too excessive for someone who is not a pro, making money with my gear.

I have had a Hellraiser C7 for years. It has always been an excellent guitar. I have kind of grown from the specs, so it isn't my favorite, but an awesome instrument nonetheless. Especially after having a fret level done a few years ago.

A few months ago I got a Banshee 6 FR. This has been my favorite guitar in years, and I have probably owned over 20 guitars. It is like the Jackson/Ibanez/ESP I always wanted, but never got. Great narrow, round neck. Now I either want a few more Banshee 6's, or a banshee 7... or both :D

So many different times I have wanted to get a Schecter 7 string, but I just despise the look of a strat style body shape with anything other than an inline headstock. I'd be all over one today if they would do more models without that 3+3 and 3+4 headstock. :aww:

It's a guitar that turned out to be better than I expected. Been playing it everyday this week... haven't even looked my Gibson LP Custom, and already been recording with it and it just sounds great. The neck has been taking some getting used to, but many hands are already adjusting and it feels great now, not to mention, now when I pick one of my other six stringers, I'm flying across the fretboard at Malmsteen speed lol

I always loved that about playing 7s and 8s....play em for a week or so and then go back to my 6s and just MANHANDLE em...they always feel so tiny and playable.

i would agree.

when i switch back to the six it feels a lot easier to play.

I have the Merrow km6. Love it. Took me 6 sets of strings and many nights of intonating to find what I liked for a particular tuning. But once I found it. Man. It's awesome.
