Yup...I guess I'm officially getting old. I'm a 35 year old non-smoker and don't really watch what I eat nor do I exercise much (since have the kids 3 years ago). I'm in the hypertension range right now, but on the high end. (high 130's and high 90's). I guess the next step is to start eating better, work out and get on some kind of medication.

This really sucks!!!

The Dr didnt give you a script?

I take Attenalol

not yet...I've got to go back in a week to have it checked again (they want to make sure it has nothing to do with the sinus infection I'm fighting right now).

That doesn't seem high enough to have to go on meds. Mine was just like yours for the past couple years, mostly due to stress, I'm back around the 120/80 range.

I have been hanging around 120/80 for a couple years as well. Higher than my doc would like, but not terrible.

Between that, and my bad cholesterol (sp?) of 205...also not terrible, but higher than wanted and the fact that I gained 40 pounds  , I made the decision to start taking better care of myself recently.

I am not making any big changes, because fact is, at this point in my life, with all the daily responsibilities, big changes probably won't stick. But, I am going to the gym 4 days a week now (easy to do as long as it is early am) and I have changed my diet to reduce the sodium and cholestoral.

Little changes accross the board are working for me.

BTW...I turned 40 in August.

you know what bro...I think mine is mostly due to stress as well. What did you do to lower yours without meds? I guess I need to cut out the caffeine...

Yikes. Take care of yourself... your kids need you!!!

Thank god I have good genes (sans gallbladder). When I went to the doctor for my gall bladder, the doctor asked if I worked out since my vitals were all good. I told him no. He was shocked, then said I need to work out anyway.

He also said my bad gall bladder was genetic before asking about my family history. He was 100% right. My grandfather, grandmother, great grandmother all had gall bladder problems. My great grandmother died from gall bladder surgery. :aww:

I hear you brother. My vitals have been 100% my entire life...until now. I think it has a lot to do with stress though. I'm about 20 lbs overweight which doesn't help things either

My cousin is a very good doctor. I just turned 38 and had a physical. My blood pressure was a bit high too and I was pretty stressed at the time and he told me exercise is the best thing for stress and high blood pressure. Next best thing he said was having sex as a stress reliever. I asked him if I could have a script to give my wife. :D

Sorry man. I don't have any advice there. But I will tell you that coffee had very little to do with it. At my last physical, I had actually upped my caffeine intake and was surprised that it was normal. But now that I think about it, I think it did have to do with exercise. I had quit my gym over a year ago and even though I have a machine at home, I didn't do cardio. I too gained about 20lbs. I started jumping rope like I said I was going to do a long while back and I think that might have helped.

Ain't that the truth. LOL. That would sell better than boner pills.

if i got off my ass and lost 30lbs i wouldnt need my metoprolol at all. my BP i mainly as high as I get stressed. If i'm home chillin, its 130's over high 60's or low 70's which is stellar for me. when i was on tour drinking 3-4 energy drinks a day  and massive amounts of alcohol and forgetting daily to take my meds it was high 150's over high 90's or low 100's :scared: . i have since gotten my head out of my ass.

From what I was told, if you are under 130 and 85 you are in an acceptable range.

The doc told me yesterday that from 85-92 your life expectancy is lessened 7 years!?!

Mine was 128/90 today..I need to work on it a bit, yesterday it was 122/82...I don't know why it fluctuates like that ?

Only tip I might throw in is try and drink as much water as you can. I drink quite a bit of water and I would swear it brought my BP down.

You don't need the meds, just quit eating red meat and fried foods.

Hey Man,

It is likely totally controllable without meds. I am 42 and last January I was diagnosed with coronary artery disease and high blood pressure. Sometimes as high as 160 to 170 over 110 to 120. Usually about 138 over 98 With nothing but a few months of healthy eating and regular(daily rigorous exercise) my stress level and blood pressure plummetted. Bp was back to 110 to 120 over 68 to 72. No meds!! just exercise and diet. it was not that strict of a diet, just mindful choices most of the time. the exercise portion was more the key . especially for stress reduction.

A program called Power 90 changed my life. You might Google it. it was the best thing I ever did for myself. It may look Kooky but let me tell ya. it friggin works..

I'm 35, I smoke and drink, and have a high stress job. My blood pressure is really good.
I've been a strict vegetarian for 12 years. Maybe it helps. Sure doesn't hurt.
Try it if you can.

So you can barely lift the toilet seat to wipe off your rabbit food waste?
