OT: I've got high blood pressure

You should be able to get back in to good standing with exercise and a diet reorganization. Seriously, do it. I run an average of 150/90 WITH two meds. I've gotten FAR, FAR healthier over the past 4 years but I'm still in very bad shape due to several pulmonary problems. It's time for you to take care of your problem, NOW.

I don't think I'm that far off from you on this one buddy

It is likely totally controllable without meds. I am 42 and last January I was diagnosed with coronary artery disease and high blood pressure. Sometimes as high as 160 to 170 over 110 to 120. Usually about 138 over 98 With nothing but a few months of healthy eating and regular(daily rigorous exercise) my stress level and blood pressure plummetted. Bp was back to 110 to 120 over 68 to 72. No meds!! just exercise and diet. it was not that strict of a diet, just mindful choices most of the time. the exercise portion was more the key . especially for stress reduction.

A program called Power 90 changed my life. You might Google it. it was the best thing I ever did for myself. It may look Kooky but let me tell ya. it friggin works..

I am 41 and had 160 to 170 over 100 to 110 around a year ago, my doc wanted to put me on meds and even got indignant with me when I wouldn't take them. She told me I wouldn't be able to lower it because most people can't. Well I did and just like jdub said, diet and exercise (and very little to no alcohol) kept me from getting on meds.

Yup...I guess I'm officially getting old. I'm a 35 year old non-smoker and don't really watch what I eat nor do I exercise much (since have the kids 3 years ago). I'm in the hypertension range right now, but on the high end. (high 130's and high 90's). I guess the next step is to start eating better, work out and get on some kind of medication.

This really sucks!!!

welcome to the club. arthritis is next.

Hooray for getting older.

My grandfather died of colon cancer, I get to look forward to a colonoscopy in a year or so when I turn 40...

Thanks for all of the pointers guys! I'm going to buy an elliptical machine (treadmills are boring as hell to me), so I can get my cardio on in the house. I work from home and there's really no excuse as to why I can't carve out 30 minutes a day to exercise. I'm also going to switch to decaf coffee and cut down the red meat/fried foods for a while. I don't eat much fried shit today, but I do enjoy a good burger or steak for sure

I have been hanging around 120/80 for a couple years as well. Higher than my doc would like, but not terrible.

120/80 is fine. If you doctor is telling you that is high he is insane.

I actually think it is more that I am overweight and have a tad high cholestoral that concerns him. And he tells me my BP is borderline, so with the other factors, he just wants me to be proactive...which I agree with 100%.

not yet...I've got to go back in a week to have it checked again (they want to make sure it has nothing to do with the sinus infection I'm fighting right now).

Nose sprays and all that stuff cause high blood pressure too. Could be temporary...

I just exercise and watch what I eat. I was in the same boat as you, gave me some meds that I didnt like the way they made me feel, stuff seem to make me have to piss every 20 minutes

We're men, we're not designed to be sitting on our asses all day infront of computer and TV screens. You have to get out and get your heart rate up. I try to run between 2-3 miles every other day and that works for me, no meds, no high BP or no high cholesterol ;)

Well...I'm now on Avapro. my pressure was steadily high for the past 10 days and my headaches were getting worse. So far, I feel MUCH better. My pressure is down and I've started eating healthier (dropped 6 lbs already). I'm going for full blood work on 12/1 and a stress test shortly thereafter

Glad it is working out for you !

Have you ever done a stress test before ?

That is a serious kick your ass workout !
