When I finished school back in May, I decided I wanted to start eating better. I used to eat a ton of fast food, junk food, and lots of snacks like chips and cookies and such. I just got sick of all that stuff and wanted to make a change. Well, so far I've lost 40 pounds since the beginning of May and I definitely feel better. I weigh 217 now (down from 257), and I want to eventually get down to about 180-190 or so. I've been eating more or less the same things every day. A bagel with peanut butter, a Lean Pocket, and a glass of V8 Fruit Fusion juice for breakfast and then a 6" roasted chicken sub from Subway with some fruit or yogurt and some water for dinner. I've also really cut down on snacking, especially late at night. If I do eat any snacks now, I just go with some fruit, rice cakes, or cereal bars. I'm sure a lot of people couldn't keep eating the same stuff like that, but unlike gear, I don't get sick of food items quickly.  But anyways, just thought I'd share that.

I went from 252 to 212 back in '07.

Of course, I'm back at 221.

dammit, I love eating.

I think when someone is 230 lbs+ it's much easier to drop 30-40 lbs. The real challenge is getting under 190 lbs for someone that size.

Good luck, it does just as much for your brain as it does for your body.

Agreed. The last 10-20 is the bitch.

Not to diminish the accomplishment though. Good job.

Those subs really are healthy (certain ones at least), and they taste real good too. :D

Congrats! A lot of people are looking for this magic pill of weight loss, but it's as simple as you'd think: eat healthy. Well the solution is easy, implementing it is the hard part for most, but you've shown it works. Keep it up!

Good for you Mark!

I am working on adjusting my eating habits as well. For the most part, it hasn't been that hard, but cutting out the booze is a tough one for me

You'd drop even more if you lost the Subways.

How do you figure that? The chicken sub only has 310 calories and 5 grams of fat.

40 pounds is a major accomplishment Mark!!! I'm 6'2 215 LBS.....I really need to be around 195 to look thin. All of my weight is in my gut

I feel for you brother, I'm the same way! I'm a fuckin' rail everywhere but my gut and hips lol. If I ate healthy for a solid couple months I KNOW I would lose the weight. It's my damn will power that always seems to slip..hah.

Ok, thats nice but thats not good food. If you want to actually get healthy buy real food and make your meals. No V8, get real fruits and veggies and make a smoothie. No Subway ever again, in fact, no eating out. You can make food 1000x better tasting and better for you. Yogurt is good but not the stuff that is sweetened.

Good luck, me? I eat whatever I want and never gain weight but I still cook because it tastes better.

I'm aware it's not the healthiest stuff ever, but that's fine with me. It's certainly WAY better than what I used to eat and it's working for me. Plus it's cheap and easy.

Hey Mark,

I would agree that while eating so little is working for you now, you're setting yourself to gain it all back. A lot of fitness experts would say you're starving yourself right now, which slows your metabolism way down. So when you start eating "normal" again, your body's not used to it and all the weight comes right back.

I've battled with my weight my entire life (I'm 36), but I really feel like for the first time I'm doing it right. Eating healthy (or what they call clean) and working out. Right now I'm at 228, down from 253. I've lost weight faster in the past, but this time around, I don't feel like I'm "dieting" and I've never felt healthier and stronger.

If you've got the time, read this thread on the Men's Health forums.

I know it's hard to change when you're getting good results, but take a look at that thread...when you start looking at weight loss scientifically, it makes a lot of sense.

And also learning to cook better food is great advice...much healthier and better tasting. Plus, women really dig it when you cook them dinner...

I could never skip lunch. My thing is to not drink soda and drink alot of water and juice. I didnt hear you say much about vegetables. Raw vegetables do wonders for keeping "shit" moving along too and those greens like broccoli and green beans sliced bell peppers and such are really good for you. Do you have a local health food store nearby? I go to mine and get a to go carton and fill it with greens and then buy my dressing seperate, that way the veggies dont weigh as much at the register. I hit the salad bar but no dressing in other words. Does wonders man. Subway isnt too bad but I would eat lunch man, gotta keep your energy up. I lost about 20 something lbs doing with this diet change a couple years ago and I was only 185 or so to begin with but I have a skinny frame so I was not looking to good. At subway I try to just eat the Tuna or something like that. I feel like as long as I keep up with the greens and dont overeat that I can guage what I eat with how much energy Ive been using.

Sorry dude, just sayin :dunno: There's a ton of salt in those things too.

However, it's killer that you managed to change your diet in such a way and are seeing the results
