Looking for a pedal to put either in the loop or front of a Marshall to give it really thick, fat sounding single note tones.

Never tried an EQ in the loop - do you think this is the best way to go?

I often wonder the same thing...i have a slash sig jubilee and was going to ask the same question

Badgerplex Pre into the front end...it doesn't add a whole lot of gain but it makes everything (especially single note lines) sound bigger.

Rupe, would there be a big difference between the Badger and an EP Booster? I have an EP.

Rupe how much does something like that run?

Are we talking of thickening up the clean or the gain sound?

My vote for clean is compressor
My vote for gain is boost. With a Jubilee I use a tubescreamer. Always wanted to try a suhr koko boost though.

They really aren't very much alike IMO. The EP Booster has a lot more "boost" to it while the Badgerplex is less about the boost (although it can heat up your signal a bit at higher settings) and more about the overall effect that it has on your tone by making it just a bit bigger/fatter/warmer...notes just seem to have a larger sonic footprint than they do without it. It's a subtle yet "always on" pedal for me.

The other guitarist in my classic metal band liked what it did for my sound (I typically use it with a Marsha) enough that he wanted to do the same thing. He went with the EP booster since it was cheaper but ultimately realized that it couldn't do what he wanted (although it is a cool boost for true boosting purposes).

Hmmmm, I'd like to try the Badger. I like my EP Booster as an 'always on' pedal for some amps.

This would be for kicking a moderately overdriven amp into la-la land for soloing and sustain (pretty much any overdrive will do this - but I'm looking specifically to fatten up single note lines. . .so maybe one works better at that than another).

I always wanted to try the koko too. i also want to try the Green Rhino and now the Bedgerplex pre & i also want to try the pigtronix fat drive or whatever it's called and i want to try the Dead Horse too.

I use a TS-9 for this. The mid boost adds a stoutness to the notes that a clean boost does not. I really like that punch it adds to the top three strings.

I think you may be better off with something along the lines of a Tube Screamer for what you want to do. The Badgerplex is a subtle tone enhancer...it's nothing that you're going to kick on to boost a solo to any large degree.

Try a KoKo Boost, I use it for exactly what your wanting with my QuickRod! It's amazing!!!

I think the Koko or a Tubescreamer will do the trick. I have the Koko now and love it, but really wish I would have kept my TS808.

Did you ever do a head to head comparison with the Koko and tubescreamer? Can you describe the differences for them when used as a boost?

I would like to know about the MAXON ST9 Pro Plus...if anyone has ever used one?

Would be interested to hear a clip of the comparaison of both! Somebody have one?

Unfortunately I did not. To be honest I didn't have the TS set to be strictly a boost, so hard to compare.
