Overlap between an Uberschall and Triple Recto?

I have a JCM 2204 and a Mesa Triple Rec that aren't going anywhere any time soon. I pretty much always have the Triple Rec in the Orange/Vintage mode with the tone controls set around noon and the gain and presence near 1:00 depending on my mood. Typically no boost, but sometimes I feel like getting crazy. I can't get a sound out of Modern mode that I'm happy with for more than a few minutes of juvenile chugga chugga fun (which is fun).

Thinking of unloading a somewhat expensive guitar that I don't use often and picking up a third amp. Not really sure what I want (other than a high-gainer), but maybe an Uberschall. My only "experience" with one was when I had an Axe FX II, and the Uber model sounded a bit like a tighter, brighter Vintage Mode Recto. If that's the reality, I'll probably pass and look for something more different than what I've already got.

I know there are various revisions ("green" with the lousy taper, Rev. 2 which just fixed the taper and maybe added some level control to the loop, Rev. Blue which I think is tighter and brighter? And the Twin Jet). Not really looking at a Twin Jet because I don't think the KT88s are what I'd like.

Thanks!

Forget about the revision or taper. Go down to the Bogner forum for ad nauseam musings on the differences. Tonally, all Ubers are about the same, with exception of the TJ. The Uber and Recto are not even in the same ballpark.

Uber's have a midrange detail in the grain of the distortion that Recto's do not have. They are also smoother on the top end and more refined sounding (imo).

They also have more inherent compression than Recto's and sound less raw and more polished. Again just imo.

I would try one if you haven't yet, I wouldn't let any possible overlap with a Recto stop you.

Rev 2 was the deepest, darkest sounding 3D type tone out of the three different revisions I had. Rev Blue had a little less bass and was brighter. And the TJ was it's own animal so to speak with a bit of a departure from the previous iterations but tracked very well with faster palm muting and some additional capabilities.

Thanks. I'll find one to play. I shouldn't trust what I thought of it based on the AFXII.

No, don't trust the Axe models. Hell, I had the unique gift of making all amps sound the same. Never heard a Fender Bassman sound like a Mark IIC+ before....

BTW, there's a smoking Rev.2 Uber on eBay. not sure what his reserve is though......https://www.ebay.com/itm/111215506546?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

^^^ I guess URL's won't post as links after the software upgrade....

^ Yeah, I'm specifically looking at that Über, but I should track one down and play it before making impulse buys. At least that seems practical. Not much fun but practical. I just wasn't sure how different it would be than a Rectifier.

I agree

The axe does not have the TJ version modeled, it is quite different. My axe sent my revision blue packing though as well as 7 other heads I was able to match exactly.

I'm guessing you don't spend much time in the modeling forum on TGP?
