I have been using the same picks for years and years. Just for fun I ordered a bag of Dunlop Ultex sharp 1.40mm and found they work quite a bit better for me. They are a bit big as I am used to Tortex Jazz III, but I think I play cleaner with them and like the tone better. I am also interested in checking out a few of the V-Pick models ( although they are pricey). Just wanted to see if anybody here has some info on cool picks to check out since apparently I am now in the market for a new main pick?

Red Bear makes some cool picks. I tried the same one the Guthrie Govan uses, but I still can't play like him

Try the Ultex Jazz III. They make them in 1.4 and 2mm I believe. The V picks are good but I can't justify the price.

i know! I should! Probably something in the fine print that prevents that. Buyer beware! Seriously, they are nice picks.

I actually swear by gravity picks now. i use a 1.5mm from them.

lazer etched solid acrylic - light weight, solid/will not bend, and last freaking forever. ive put a pounding on the demo pick i ordered and plan to spend the money to order more.

FWIW i was a dunlop nylon .88 and 1.14 user for years, made the switch to gravity and no complaints so far.

I will say they do tend to want to twist in my hands sometimes, nothing a drill bit has not fixed.

Jazz III XL. V-Picks are not that great. They do, however, really add attack to a bass guitar.

Red Bear picks are also awesome.

I go between two ... my old faithfull Dunlop 2.00mm Delrins and Planet Waves 1.5mm Black Ice.

I used the .88 Dunlaps for years (same ones Metallica used to use) so I could get that "gallop" on metal songs but now I use a Fender Medium and am so used to it I can't imagine going back.

This is what I use these days.

Love the Classic II plus. They last for months. Worth every cent of twenty bucks to me.

Blue Tortex 1mm. for me - I love the tone and the wear is slow. Even when they wear, they don't feel sticky and jagged like other picks.

what picks do you guys think work best for the Eric Johnson economy picking on pentatonics (adjacent string madness).

I still stick with Dunlop Tortex .78

Same here, they are just right for me. I started with thin, moved to thicker tortex greens. Now the .78 and I don't plan to switch. I have tested others here and there but always went back.

Same dunlop delrin 2.0mm (purple monsters). strummy stuff i have some .96mm delrins with my sig on them.

I love the feel of tortex, I just wish they didn't wear so fast. I love the pick attack of a fresh pick... but the edges wear round and it loses that feeling within like 5-10 minutes.
