This is pretty much all I know:
Dimebag used em and flipped it backwards.
Nuno used em
lots of crazy shit about the history and fakes?

tell me more please :)

If you buy one...make sure to order it from Bill and Becky....these are the real Bill Lawrence pickups...that's all you need to know :D

very clear sounding, but way too thin, sterile, spikey and scooped
all of them
and there's no fakes
there's the original company, and the guy
so there was the original model (before the guy left the company), the company models after he left (Bill Lawrence USA), the OBL models made by in Germany by the other company he founded, and his new "Bill & Becky" models (that should be called Wilde pickups)

grab a bare knuckle cold sweat instead
it's like a lawrence without the harsh top, with a crunchier and thicker midrange, much more organic and even more articulated
best pup for Dime tones ever (yes, much better than his own pickups)

this

i'm hoping juggernaut will chime in....the reason i'm asking is i'm getting a guitar from him in trade and it has a pair of the L-500XLs in it. Didn't think trying to figure out what to do with them would be such a pain in the ass lol.

is there such a thing as a L-500XL neck? or does this guitar just have a L-500XL in both bridge and neck positions.

The Bill and Becky sound nothing like the Bill lawrence pickups.

I have personally tried both Bill and Becky version and BLUSA version, and i agree 110%. They sound nothing like each other!!

The Bill and Becky one sounded killer, had a hot rodded tone with a very cutting upper midrange. Lots of output but in no way sterile.

The BLUSA sounded super thin, trebly and added fizz to the top end that couldnt be dialled out.

People have told me im wrong and that apparently they should sound the same as each other. I know what my ears heard when i tried them both, and they were NOT the same :)

Personal opinion:

They are the BLUSA models, personally I CAN NOT STAND the B&B pick-ups. theyare inconsistant as hell, when you get a good one they are killer, but I've had WAY too many bad ones, and Becky is a lying bitch.

IMHO, the BLUSA are the better pick-ups, more consistant, and just and all around better pick-up. flipping them doesn't do a damned thing, (as far as I could ever tell). They are my "go-to" pick-ups when I dont have my normal choice. they sound good, can't really think of what to compare them to, I prefer them over the BK Nailbomb I had, didn't care for that pick-up AT ALL.

not sure if there is a different model for the neck and bridge, years ago all I had was a pair of them and so I installed them, and really liked the XL in the neck, a little more output than what I had normally used, and sounded really good, so I stuck with it......

+1

I REALLY dislike the L-500's. To my ears they are VERY shrill sounding and have a very harsh high end.

My N4's sound like ass with the USA Bill Lawrence that came with them. Put the B+B's in them different guitar.

hmm, so I'm guessing the B&B L-500XL Juggernaut sold me is the bad one? :aww:

All kidding aside.

the BLUSA pups suck cocks in hell. Fuzzy, nasty, ugly, sucky

B&B L500XL = awesome, bright, tight, lots of harmonics. Sounds like Dimebag to my ears.

I know people say Nuno and Dimebag use the BLUSA pups, but I will go to my grave believing B&B's are the "Real" thing.

My thoughts exactly man! The B&B model nailed Dime's tone when i had it, whilst the BLUSA just sounded like shit.. thin, sharp, fuzzy lifeless etc.

And im the cure.

Dime said himself on numeous occasions before he was using the Dimebucker that he would just get the L500xl's from Stew Mac! Washburn had those pickups, and others.

I have 6 USA Washburn Dime's and they are all from different years, and none of them have the same pickup.

The ones from 95 have a thicker blade, and the blade comes up past the bobbin with a radius, one from 99 have thin blades, then have one with 2 thick blades that are flush with the top, and then 2 dimebuckers, all of them sound different, and all of them have different markings on the bottom, the ones with the thicker blades sound WAY better, the ones that Stew Mac sells typically have the thin blades and sound thin an weak.

Anyhow, just thought I would add that even though it's probably of little value.
