I use a Rolls RPQ160 and I like it a lot. It's a 4-band parametric EQ with a low and high shelf cutoff. I use it in the effects loop of my guitar amp.
I owned the Rane PE-17 but I was very disappointed with it. The band 5 on/off switch was intermittently failing. I contacted Rane and received no reply. I returned the unit for another (musiciansfriend.com) and they sent me a new-in-box replacement which was severely physically damaged. To be more precise, there was no damage during shipping to me (the factory box was sealed and pristine). It came from the Rane factory in that condition! I'm disappointed in Rane's quality and customer service.
I like the Rolls better because it has pre-defined limits for each band which make sense. It was counterintuitive on the Rane to view which multiplier setting the knob is on. I also quickly found that I have no need for 5 bands. I often use only 3 bands. So 4 is more than enough.
Also, Rolls responded to my email questions both before and after the sale. Highly recommended.
