Hey,

I'm in the need for a new flanger and I have a comparison question; I like the take off of the Gilbert flange, but mostly I want the EVH unchained/atomic punks sound. Can the PG flanger do the EVH sounds as well?

Thanks

I have the Gilbert flanger, and honestly I think the HBE is better at the "take off" thing.

Nither one really nails the EVH thing though.

I want try snag the AD/A reissue at some point.

While the EVHites and Gilbertsons debate this in full fanboi nudity lets all enjoy the finer points of the greatest all round shredder from the 80s.................

The bell still sounds for Paul

+++++1 :rawk:

I have the Airplane flanger, boss flanger, and a MXR. I would say the airplane flanger does not give you the subtle Unchained flange. It's better suited for whacky and weird modulation.

no, don't buy it for that. it does other cool things though. i had the mxr, the gilbert flanger, and have an ADA flanger. the mxr does the unchained thing the best. the ada is best for craziness

i had the frostbite as well. cool flange/chorus sounds but really didn't do the evh thing. the frostbite's "take off" is cool, but the ada is best for that. i've read where gilbert's adas were modded. i have 2 of the reissues and both do the crazy whammy thing right out of the box. no need to mod

I wouldn't mind trying it out, but personally I prefer my Electro Harmonix Deluxe Electric Mistress flanger.

so, even though you haven't tried it out, you prefer the Electro Harmonix flanger?

If you're primarily looking for the EVH thing, just get the MXR or the MXR EVH. Either will nail it.

The hartman Flanger is incredible.. I have owned a few Ibanez, boss, mxr flangers over the years

it can do the jet but really excels at chorus /flange police type tones..

It's a quiet , hand built electric mistress clone...

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I have an early 80's yamaha flanger that I got new when I was a kid. It does whacky flanger sounds, not quite a take off-but does sound like a jet engine. It's just not subtle enough and the input jack and pots are getting scratchy. I really love the sound of my mxr phase 90, just how subtle it is, almost like a barely there wah rocking back and forth. If I could get that subtle sound out of a flanger that would be perfect.

It sounds like the MXR is what I need.

+1 on the Frostbite.

However, if you want the most realest model of a Flanger you have to get an Axe-Fx

The bell sounds very loud for Paul still, and will for a very long time if he continues to push forward. He has a fire for music as much as he did in the 80s. I wish all my heroes from then continued to care as much!!!
