Saw the episode last night and that seller is just plain crazy. He should have sold that guitar at a Christie's auction...not to some shitty Pawn shop so they could flip it.

What a shame...

Honestly, I think the dude is VERY fair with people...certainly compared to the Pawnshop guys in LA, when I was a kid :lol: :LOL:

They aren't going to pay you retail, or even used price similar to CL. They are going to pay you half of what they can sell it for, if you are lucky. They have to make money. +1 I've had to pawn some gear many yrs ago when I was in a bind. sucked taking the price hit but I would've been worse off trying to sell it myself.

I didn't see this particular episode, but if it were me I would have aired the episode after I sold the guitar on ebay.

What makes me a bit sad is that guitar will probably never be played again.

Love the show and love the pawn business, but they (pawn shops in general) have lost their appeal as of late. I find them way overpriced nowadays. There's no competitive pricing at all anymore. They're paying less and selling for way more. There's one local shop that's just ludicrous! And the days of haggling and horse trading seem to be long gone. Such a shame.

I must say though, I think Pawn Stars (Gold and Silver Pawn Shop) pays quite fairly; for a pawn shop that is. They're paying more than what I would have paid, and I was in the biz for years.

I know people like to hate on pawn shops because they don't pay much. Well my friends, your option is to sell privately. Obviously you'll get more. You just have to put in the time, the work, and put up with the bullshit and possible scams. Small price to pay to make those dollars stretch. Pawn shops have their purpose. Personally I would never sell to one.

As for the main topic, the seller should have definitely went to auction, but hey...quick cash is quick cash, and $90,000 ain't half bad for a quick transaction.
 
the documents alone are worth about 35k at the right auction or even contacting Hard Rock Cafe corp. If he had the balls to do a reeal autcion, he could have gotten 175k or so. I feel like that guy looked really familiar to me. He played it like ha was tham man but when they started talking real money instead of his talk, he came way down.
 
Even if I had the extra money, I would never pay that much for any gutiar. I dont care if LP made it, repaired it and then put it in Ernie Ball's wifes Vag...

With that aside it is a nice looking guitar.

Bald guy kept saying he cant pay that much....he has too much in overhead.
So he has $160,000 in overhead to have this guitar in his shop????/ :lol: :LOL:
Man...that place must be super expensive to run. :D
But I hear that Chumlee skims into the till for lunch everyday.

Yeah the input jack was ripped right out of the fucking guitar and poorly glued back in. Looks like les paul made THAT repair himself.... What a joke.
 
I used to find some great stuff at pawn shops, but that was a long time ago. They have gotten pretty pricey as of late
 
was the reserve met? It looks like it at $110k. That isn't a lot of profit for those guys they typically want 40-60% profit margins so I was thinking they want $180 for it :)
