FedEx usually will pack it right in front of you before charging you, in my experience. I always have them pack up amps. I just do not trust their insurance if I pack. No matter how well I do it, they surely have ways of wrecking it.

When I receive amps, UPS uniformly seems to do a poor job handling them.

UPS loses amps. They lost my MESA/Boogie Road Ready 4X12 cabinet and it took 6 months to get back 80% of my paid insurance money, oh yah, and about 40 hours on the phone and proof of what it was worth although I paid for $550 in insurance, Total bull shit!!!

I don't have the time to acquire the materials or manufacture the boxes and such to do this myself. And even if I pack for war,there is still always a chance the insurance won't pay off. If the store knows they are on the hook and I request double boxing and extra padding on the paperwork to ensure safe shipping,they have no recourse if damage occurs. It's all on them.

If this amp was just another Marshall, it wouldn't be a big deal. This bitch is heavy as hell and there is not many of them. And I have the PayPal receipts to show what he paid for it. I don't care if they charge me $200 to get it there safely.

A prominent person in the biz told me he ships FedEx, surrounds the head in 6 inches of bubble wrap, and hasn't had a problem in 10 years. YMMV.

What's worked for me is the following.
1) Wrap the amp head in 3 inches of bubble wrap, then put it in a box, even if you have to cut it up and tape it together around the bubble wrap.

2) Then I use 2-3 inches of packing paper, fairly stuffed around the 1st box, before putting it in a second box.

I had to ship a rare Mesa head a few months back to a member here, and used this method. Got to the member in fine shape.

Yes it was 6 inches of packing around the head total, all four sides. It cost about $30 including all the packing, but it's a lot better than going through a damage claim.

Your call, but that's what I found that works.

I’ve shipped countless amps and guitars, packed all of them myself and never had an issue. I’m allot more confident in my packing job over some $10/hr kid I’m paying to pack it for me.

If you want it done right, do it yourself. Does anyone really think some teenager making $10 or less an hour, between posting on Facebook, Insta, and Snap... smoking/snorting who knows what... while "working" at the local franchise UPS/FedEx store is going to do a better packing job vs you the seller... you need a reality check. Fast.

I ship a lot of gear... more than a large majority of the peeps here... and I always do it myself... take pics, make a video if you like... then ship it at the local store, or go direct to the hub for high ticket items.

And yes... I have gotten paid from UPS damage claims when it is their fault and I packed the item securely. Not sure where all this smoke about UPS denying claims is coming from. I've had better luck with them vs FedEx by far. There is absolutely NO guarantee that having the store pack an item that the claim will always be honored... hogwash.

But like most things in life, if you want it done right... do it yourself.

Do you go home at the end of every day? I am home for 36 hours once a week, from Saturday morning to Sunday evening. The amount of stuff I have to do when I get home can never be fully done in the time I have to do it. "Finding time" does not exist for me.
