Any of you guys no of a mod to add more bottom end to the 5150 head? Like a deep pot or some thing like that. Let me no guys. Could I just swap the renosonce pot to a different value? Also want to do the sweep pot mod. Trying to find pics and diagrams etc

I forgot to mention I already did the bias mod to it and helped the tone a lot.

Looking to beef up the bottom end and also install a mid sweep /tone shift pot. Anyone done this to there 5150? Been searching for pic threads all f in g'day.

I really can't be leave I can find one pic on Google showing the mod! Been looking for hours

Try FJA Mods

Looking to do,it,my self as I would have no prob doing so after I find out exactly what to do lol

Mine is stock, all I did was put an MXR EQ in the loop to bump up the bass a little.

A mid sweep is a variable slope resistor, find the slope resistor In the tone stack remove it and apply the proper parts to make it a sweep.

Have you worked on amps before? It doesn't seem so if you can't add a simple sweep, be careful that amp can KILL you dead easily.

Doesn't it already have a a resonance control?? Boosting it can tighten the bass up.

I no the idea behind the mod is but like a said just looking for more info on it. Yes I do work on amps retube's and services . The mod is done to the eq part of the amp. A resistor next to the mid pot needs to be replaced with a pot and a resistor just trying to find out what values.

But thanks. I also just don't dive in to my amps and start fucking with it with out any info and studying up on what I'm doing first.

Yes it does. I'm also boosting it with a custom od I built. The amp just thins out with a boost

Try a different od then or use the tone knob if you have it. The 5150 doesn't lack low end.

Ok but Jerry might be able to point you in the right direction

You must have something wrong with your amp. I've got a 5150 block letter head and turning the resonance control to 6 is plenty boomy and low end.

Are you running thru the 5150 4x12?

There is nothing wrong with my amp lol. I'm just use to bass heavy amps like cobras , dragon, rectifiers, uberschalls etc. not saying it lacks but just a little more of a shove in the bass direction it would be perfect . I have a original quad of svetlana str 387 power tubes that are about $350 bucks when you can find them, and about another $150 or so in the pre amp in square getter china 12ax7's . Also did the bias mod on it. My 5150 is the best sounding 5150 I have owned and herd. I have owned about 6 of these amps. The tubes I mentioned came stock in the first run of block letter 5150's in the 90's and are the ones that started the whole block letter to script debate .

I run the amp threw a mesa 4x12 with v 30's.

Maybe I'll pick up a 5150 cab for the hell of it.
