Rig-Talk member Rabies stopped over yesterday afternoon, and brought his new 6534+ with him, so I decided to shoot a video of him playing through both the 6534+ and my 5150.
The differences were much more subtle than I would have thought. Both amps sound very similar, with the 6534+ seeming to have more top end crunch, and less low end than the 5150. But they still both had a very similar tone.

Check it out.
In HD, of course.

Thanks for doing a comparison but the timing is so off I can't stand to listen to it :(

It's not the timing, it's the playing. There are 4 tracks total recorded here, 2 for each amp, panned full left and full right.
There are slight differences in the playing on each side, is what you are hearing.
But figured it was useable anyways, since it is just an amp demo, and not a new album recording.

Thanks for posting that, No denying these are classic amps that record very well. Best bang for the buck amp out there. I like the tone from the 6534 better on this recording. Close but notable difference.

what an odd song to choose for this shootout. these amps are at their best when doing chugging/palm mutes/downtuning/full chords/etc. i can't adequately say one is better than the other based on this video.

The tone is cool with both amps. I'd probably lean 5150. I like a darker tone. Maybe it was just the eq settings.

i think the song is great choice to demo for these 2 amps ,it shows that the 6505 series can do more than just CHUG, CHUG, CHUG.. which is why i bought the amp.. but shows it can do more... i like them both.. i like a slightly brighter tone, than a darker one.. anywho great vid.. thanks for the demo...

Theses amps may be popular for modern day metal and chug, but it is foremost a rock amp that was originally made for a madman with a taste for endless gain and sustain.

I was waiting for someone to put up a 6534+ comparison video.

On my laptop speakers the 5150 sounds darker/chuggier and the 6534+ sounds brighter and slices through more.

The demo was originally going to be Orion by Metallica but I don't practice as much as I used to and this was a decent choice, sorry about the mistakes. The amps sound similar but the 6534+ is more Marshally basically. Don't turn up the pre-gain past noon on these heads, they already have a lot of gain and the distortion can sound muddy (esp. on jazz chords like D7#9 which I threw in there before the chorus kicked in) and it's hard to hear all the distinct tones of a jazz chord ring out. Anyways, I figure most guys don't play too much jazz chords with these amps.

The two amps I tried at Mightwarlock's place that were impressive for palm-muted "chugging" and blues/diminished metal riffing was the Krank (Krankenstein?) w/ Maxon OD808 (sick, like something breaking sounding with muted power chords) and the Engl SE. Very impressed by those two. TIght/fast attack and heavy as shit w/ the LP. Try them out!

I'm planning on running my Rivera S120 and Marshall 2205 into the Gflex 212 cab when I get the Voodoo Lab Amp selector this week. I'll update with that later.
