At least Kyle doesn't do so many pinch harmonics as a couple other youtubers which is a good thing....because they never sound good!

Also Kyle, it sounds like it goes against every fiber of your being to be attempt to be comedic on your video approach. It is cringey to watch but it seems that you know it is cringey but you feel like you have to do it anyway; which is in itself....super cringey.

Just be true to yourself and don't try to be cute and funny, your videos will be much more tolerable without it.
Nope, that is 100% me in real life. Sounds like you just don't gel with my purposefully bad style of humor. Sorry bro!

Kyle, you’re one of the only ones I dig at this point because you actually do stuff with your channel and don’t just do click bait shit. That being said, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think I enjoyed the Sheffields more with the amp than the v30s. I’m curious how it fares with other amps. That thing cut like a knife with that though.
Right? I mean, I think the old school 1230 along with the Triple XXX and JSX Sheffileds are actually very underrated speakers.

After speaking with John at Peavey, apparently they've had a hell of a time with reliable sourcing when it comes to speaker components over the years, so the same models can vary in sound WILDLY. I can say this seems to be true, as I had 2 5150 slant cabs at the same time. One sounded pretty damn ok. The other one was one of the worst sounds I'd ever heard come out of a 412 box.

But yeah, the new 1230+ sounds killer. I think the only weak area in the speaker might be an over abundance of low mids, it may cloud up a full sounding mix, but won't know until I record with em

I like your videos. perfect balance of playing, talking, and tweaking.
Thanks man. Happy to hear it. You definitely can't appeal to everyone, but it's nice to know it works for some people out there! Lol

Yeah, my experience was the 412 I played with sheffields was absolute dog shit.

Big low mids should clean up. Hell of a lot easier to take away than add them IMO. Eq with a cut at 80 and a low shelf at 250 hz, fixes everything!

The first time I clicked on one of Kyle's videos a few months back it made me kind of jump out of my seat because it startled me lol. I was thinking that is exactly what I need to replace my alarm clocks buzz tone . I'm going to record the "WHATS UP GUYS KYLE HERE AGAIN" because it wakes me up instantly even when I'm already wide awake .

This is a complement Kyle, I like what you do .(y)

I hated the Sheffields as well. I easily had 3-4 Peavey 4x12’s with them.

The amps sounds cool, but I ain’t pay $1,299 for it. ?

Are the 1230s the ones Ed had Peavey spec out to (supposedly) sound like his old, beat-to- hell Greenbacks?

Yeah those 1230 speakers are no joke at all, despite people sometimes calling the brand shitfield lol. I have one in my studio-pro combo that I robbed from a broken silver-stripe bandit.
+1

I really like the Sheffield 1200s. They’re very neutral so if an amp sounds like ass then they’re going to project that. I prefer to tune amps using them but also like to use greenbacks. I tuned my 5150 II using Sheffield’s and it fucks with V30s or G12Ms.

The new 1230’s sound really good. If they don’t take off with customers out there I’ll be happy to pick up one of these new cabs on the used market for cheap (I hope) eventually. In the video when you picked up the EMG equipped guitar that was like the perfect match.

I had some good 1200’s in my old 5150 2x12 combo. They were definitely very greenbackish, but sort of exaggerated, i.e. more extended high frequencies with more fizz, bigger and slower feeling low end. They were cool for some things but not for anything that required a tighter or cleaner sound. I’ve also always heard kind of a weird metallic clanky hollow sound in them.

Some of them can sound pretty bad. I remember trying out a 5150 II half stack in a store a long time ago when they were new and it just sounding like fizzy ass because of the cab.

This has been my experience as well.

On a side note, I recently got a newer 6505 cab for free through some wheeling and dealing. One of the ones with the white spikey Peavey logo and white piping.

This cab sounded MUCH better than my 5150 cab, side by side. I tore it apart and they seemed to be using thicker ply on these. I asked John why they sounded so different, this is when he told me about the speaker material variance.

He also said that some of the newer cabs had a slightly different 6505 speaker in them that looks the same but has a black sticker indicating the speaker type vs the old white sticker, and the new black sticker. This speaker is much more even sounding, not a ton of top end fizz like the 5150 speakers in my older cab. Night and day side by side, and I wouldn't hesitate to reach for the 6505 cab with my 5150s

So what you're saying is only cater to you?

I think people underestimate how much energy, work, and focus it takes to be on camera, especially when it doesn't come naturally. Not only do you have to focus on the objective of the video, but you have to try to come off in a way that holds the viewers attention and make sure you recite the information in your head correctly.

I know, first world problems. But it's definitely one of those things where you tend to think "dude, how could you mess that up?" until you try it. I am very guilty of this myself and I've been humbled on multiple occasions

I hear ya and that’s most certainly why I’d make for a terrible YouTuber. I make a ton of short videos for friends when they’re asking how to do something, some stuff I have no problem talking my way through with the camera not pointed at me directly, but if that camera is facing me or I need to talk into it, ugh.

I made a short video on how I do my screaming thing last week and it was so fucking awkward I hated every second of it. It’s something I’m perfectly fine talking about in person or demonstrating and sounding like an idiot, but that shit will remain unlisted on my YouTube channel forever. :ROFLMAO:

There’s also something to be said about the speakers being meant to be played at stupid loud volumes. I once took my 5150 II plugged into two of the original 5150 cabs I owned, turned the amp to 10, and dumped the floyd bar low E on my Wolfgang. I wanted to blow the damn things to get new ones. Instead they shook a picture off of the house’s concrete foundation wall and not a single problem with them after either. They are super tough and that’s something that goes unsaid. They sound and play differently when worn in.

I loved the 1200's, my original 5150 cabs sounded great with pretty much any amp. And fantastic for the Peavey high gain amps...OG 5150, XXX, JSX...those cabs were money. Granted all mine were from the first two years of production so no clue how they changed years later.

So is there any more information on the final release date of those amps and cabs?

I like the way my Sheffield speakers mix with my early 1980's Laney 4x12s , loaded with Greenback and Fane speakers .

I don't understand why people hate the Sheffield speakers.
