Sounds awesome. 5152/6505+ is probably my favorite unboosted high gain amp. I'd never given it a chance 'til recently and was blown away.

Thx man! Yeah I doubt this beast needs a boost pedal!

The OG 5150 benefits from a boost pedal, but I love the 5152 just straight in. Amazing metal amp, and I've had some really expensive ones but would take the 5152 over pretty much all of them.

Sounded great! Can hear that evil grind.

Just sold one...cool amps and sounded good without a boost. Not many amps I can say that for my taste. I did like the sound/feel better boosted though. Just lacks articulation clarity when you play it next to other amps like Fryette, Splawn, Wizard to name a few.

Turn the gain down to 3.5 and hit it with a boost in front , It is very clear that way.

I played with gain around 10-noon and lightly boosted it...clear to a degree, but no where near as defined as the amps I mentioned IMO. I had a Wizard next to it at the time and it's night/day.

Yeah I never felt the 6505/5150’s lack clarity, but compared to a Wizard is just not fair lol. Not many amps can compete with that if clarity is the priority. My Naylor, ‘89 SLO and IIC+ I think aren’t super far behind and have other things about their tone that I prefer, but Wizard would win in the clarity department. The only amp I have that’s in some ways (but not all ways) more articulate is my ‘90’s purpleface Protoype

EDIT: actually if you meant more about note definition, then the wizards would win by a bigger margin. That’s it’s real forte, the rock solid quality to its notes

Just depends on what you're looking for. People often talk about the "clarity" of Bare Knuckle pickups and Matchless amps, for example, and I think I hear what they are talking about and hate it. I maybe like some "glue" or smear to what I'm hearing.

I also don’t like Bare Knuckle or Matchless at all. I think most just say that about Bare Knuckles because they’re used to stuff like Duncan’s and DiMarzio’s and they will have more clarity than those, but are sterile and uninspiring compared to most other boutique pickup makers. There are so many pickups that are even better in clarity than Bare Knuckle without the sterileness and will also have that smear or glue you mentioned, better, more organic feel. It’s a shame that Bare Knuckle tends to be the first boutique pickup guys try and then think that more expensive pickups aren’t worth it because of them and just go back to Duncan or DiMarzio. I basically feel the same about matchless as I do about Bareknuckle’s

Man I wish I could try a Wizard... These are few and far between here in Europe...
