Last weekend I saw Suffocation in Chicago, and their guitar tone has been haunting me ever since. They were using 6505+'s, boosted with an OD pedal through Vader cabs, and their tone was vicious. Krisiun also used Suffo's gear and his tone was equally wicked. Their tones had this juicy, "Balls to the Wall" like midrange that just wouldn't quit. I've never had a 6505+ and the GAS pains are calling. Are they really that good? I've got a 5153 50 watt and a XXX II (Thanks, Havok) already. How do they compare to the 6505+?

I liked the 6505+ I've played a few times infinitely more than the Triple XXXII I owned for two years. Hated the Triple XXXII. The 6505+ however is like you said: juicy balls to the wall midrange grind. I'll own one at some point. Can't believe I went through so many high dollar amps, but never this amp

DO IT!!!

Yup, all those high dollar amps always to come back to the 5150 II, i did that sooo many times. But it is fun.

Again, tomorrow i have a Revv 120 coming in, we ll se how it compares to the mighty one!!!!

By the way, think you could re arrange your signature in a way it doesn't expand beyond the rest of the page?

Maybe it is just me? It is awkward to navigate.

Thanks.

Apparently I'm not seeing what your seeing  I'll gladly change what needs changing, but can you elaborate.

6505+ is a good amp, but I couldn't get around the fact it needed a boost pedal to get to my standards. Without a boost its a woolly, undefined mess.

I'm much happier with my JSX, XXX, and 5153.

Check out some of the music both live and studio from Jinjer. Dude uses a 6505+ and a 2x12 on almost every live clip and it sounds killer! I don't know if he uses a boost or not, but his tone is just killer for what they play.

With that said, I owned one for a few years a long time ago. It was cool but just seemed a little flat for me. I didn't boost it. Then I got a Splawn Nitro with EL34's and to me it was everything I wanted the 6505+ to be.

I think it’s because The names in your signature are all one word because there are no spaces because of the “>” between the names....so it’s causing your posts to be very wide compared to everyone else. Put a space between the names or at least Put a space between hammered and hardvalve and it should fix it.

Yeah, like Mhenson mentioned, in you signature, the good transaction list is all one word, so it makes your posts wider than the than others, like when someone posts a huge picture, it becomes larger than the regular forum format.

Besides that, i love my 5150 II, and i don't use a boost and it is not a farty mess??? It is tight and crispy, not super tight but just the right amount, imo. The 5150 on the other hand i find very woofy and loose, that why i never liked that one.

Not pointing my comment about this at you, just continuing the conversation.

Did that do the trick? Shit, I had no idea it was causing that issue :aww: Thanks for pointing that out Chris!

I have mailmans old FJA modded 6505. Total beast. Crushing rhythm channel,no boost needed but even better with a 10 band in the loop with very slight adjustments. A metal workhorse amp. Great mids!

I can imagine that FJA made that amp extra beastly. My buddy sent a Cobra to Jerry and it definitely came back better and meaner.

my Vader has a unique midrange that is there regardless of what amp im using, they are very distinct sounding cabs. im gonna guess the cab had more to do with what you liked hearing than the amp

5152 is the boutique amp killer , .....sounds incredibly good boosted or not !

The stock legends that came with it, they have their own thing going on, not close to any celestions.

The 6505+ has been my favorite amp for years. I run it on the lead channel without a boost. I can get the rhythm channel sounding similar to the lead with a boost, but why bother. I'd rather just plug straight in. If I had to get rid of all my amps except one, the 6505+ would stay.

I'm not a fan of the 5153 series. They don't have the qualities that I like about the 6505 series. Great sounding amps, just not for me.

I don't have any experience with the XXX II, but it's basically a JSX with a few tweaks and different cosmetics. I do have a XXX though. Ultimately it's best to have one of each.

Over the years I had a XXX, Ultra Plus and/or JSX. My buddy had a 5150 and 6505+. All can get a similar high gain tone.

The 5150/5150II have more low mid grunt and sound more aggressive. At low volumes they sound like fizzy bees. If you can turn up the volume around 2 or more they sound so good.

The ultra series have active tone controls and far better cleans, therefore they can cover more ground and are more versatile. They sound great at any volume.
