Looking at doing a cap job to my VTM60. Everything is original except the tubes, and its been noisy lately, so I wanna freshen it up a bit. I know the series filter caps should be changed (C1,C2,C3,C4) on the power supply board. Would it also be worth it to change C1,C6,C12,C14 on the preamp board? What brand caps would ya'll recommend? Thanks.

I did this to my VTM120 a few months back and it worked out pretty well. I changed the series filter caps and the preamp board caps, and I'd recommend the same to you. Don't know too much about brands - I just used cheap ones because I'd never done a recap before - but I know Sprague is good and if you're looking to do it right, I'd go with those.

Appreciate it man!

And for all reading this and can chime in.... I've read of a few guys who changed the Gain 2 switch cap from a .68 to a 330uf cap for a big gain boost. I just wanna make sure I'm correct in assuming that is C8 on the control board, and also that the bright cap/ warming mod is snipping the C1 and R8 on the control board.... Thanks all!

C8 on the control board is correct for the gain boost.

C2 is the brightness cap, but I wouldn't touch R8. All you'd need to do is clip C2, but I honestly don't recommend that since it only affects your signal before distortion. Also, with the Pre knob all the way up the cap is essentially out of the circuit. I actually changed out the negative feedback loop and presence circuit for a 2203 Marshall style and the amp sounded quite a bit better in the high end. If that's too much for you, I'd just run treble and presence a little lower. Anyway, I just don't think cutting C2 will give very good results, but I could be wrong!

Thanks bro. Guess I'll be ordering some caps here in a bit, lol. If anyone can throw in some good mods to do while it's open, chime in!

Meth is a helluva drug..... lol

Now, I don't have the amp in front of me, so I cant double check it, but it looks like I'll need these for the power supply- http://thetubestore.com/ca-at-100uf-350v.html

And these for the preamp board caps?-http://thetubestore.com/ca-at-20uf-500v.html (I couldn't find a 22uF)

And if I change the gain 2 boost from .68/250v to 330, that is supposed to be a .33 uF cap and NOT a 33uF or 330uF cap, correct?
