I'm wanting another Classic 50 2x12 combo, and have always preferred/owned the older black tweed versions, early 2000's. I've owned 2 Classic 50's, and a Classic 30 combo. I'm certainly not looking specifically for black tweed, of course, but I just want to know if today's amps are inferior in build/tone/quality than that of the amps built 10-15 years ago?? I really loved those amps, and for what I am doing now, it's the perfect choice.

I'll take a stab at this. I have a Peavey Delta Blues 115, part of the same family of amplifiers. I think for the most part the newer amps have added improvements. My particular amp has exposed tubes, held in with little wire clips. The newer amps have tube cages and use tube tape to keep the tubes from getting loose. I've heard with some of the classics that the board arrangement has been improved to make them more durable. I forget the details. The master volume on the 50 is nice. I've been thinking about a 50. the Classic 30 and Delta Blues amps don't have the master volume. That's my spin,

Best,

The first year classic 50s don't have a loop, that is one thing to note. As far as the latest classic series, I haven't heard of anything negative on them. Big fan of the classic series, I prefer th 50 to the 30, but both are nice amps. Retuning a classic 30 for someone right now actually....

I'll put in a brief shameless plug for the Delta Blues 115. A guy named Darren puts it through its paces. An interesting thing is he demos, doing some heavy rock. Given the Blues/Jazz targeting of the Classic line, it's cool to hear the DB 115 thrown into a heavier place. No, I don't work for Peavey, I just have some of their gear.
