I miss mine.... I had Kt77 and it sounded great thru a Vader 4x12. the Eminence Legend speakers had no mids, so the honky mids weren't a problem for me, especialy since my mids were dialed around 3... the only thing I didnt like was channel 2, I should've re-built it like a chan 3 clone... I am not a mid-gain type of player at all !!!

enjoy yours

its actually not to difficult either. it is a few resistor swaps. i have found the biggest difference to be the fact that the crunch channel has a 50k pot on the gain control and the ultra channel has a 1 meg pot for the gain control. i am contemplating doing that to mine myself, as i find i dont use the crunch channel much at all. mine doesnt sound much like a jsx anymore though

you leave channel 2 alone

surprisingly to me, it sounded much better than I thought it would have.

Now i just need to played around with it a little more...

I'm thinking
Channel 1--straight cleans, I can boost with my OCD for some added bite

Channel 2--Marshall-y grind, kinda mid gain, also boost with OCD

Channel 3--gain gain gain...I just need to get rid of the fizz and buy a noise gate

I love the JSX crunch channel! Really good feel, fun to play on.

I got the combo, I like it but..when I get the level of gain I want it sounds great for rhythm but leads sound fizzy like i'm using a cheap distortion pedal. I haven't tried any od or boosts with the amp yet. I'm assuming that will clear things up, but any tips on how to get rid of the fizz just through the amp controls?
I just can't afford any new pedals at the moment and the lead tones on the amp piss me off.

EXACTLY...played it this morning.

Channel 1 and 2 I've got set pretty good. Nice chunky, percussive rhythm tone on channel 2.

But I can't figure out channel 3...its got so much gain, but its not all usable. I hope my OCD will be able to clear it up, I'm picking up my pedalboard from church later today to test it out.

channel two with a boost is all I ever used on that amp for anything rock or metal oriented. Channel three sounded good but I never got the gain past 11 o'clock. BTW, I think the amp is ok with el34's but absolutely smokes with 6l6gc's in there. Very dramatic difference.

For the fizz on ch3 put a JJ in V2 and keep the treble no higher than 5. Use the Presence for added cut/spice.
Remember that the gain channels eq's are active, so having a high setting on any of those eq dials will increase the gain.
I also recommend leaving the effects loop on and setting the send and return dials both to six. This adds clarity and punch. Higher loop settings will also increase volume.

Thanks for the tips! I'm doing an audition for a new band next week so I'm trying to get my rig sounding good once again, I've been kinda "in-between" rigs this summer and it sucked!

I'm probably gonna end up doing a full tube change in a month or two, probably gonna get some 6550's if I can find someone to bias the amp and all that.

Love it. Its my main amp. I don't have any of the honkey mids that some peeps are talking about. The clean is better than decent and the crunch channel is where its at. Although when my custom Plexi is done being built, I can see the JSX getting some bench rest lol.

I gigged with one for about a year. Nice amp....Ch 3 was of no use to me so I never used it. CH 2 was nice and just added an od on it for some things. Sounds best with 6L6. I always had a hard time balancing the levels between the Clean and Crunch channels. The amp also wasn't very loud for 100 watts.

Yea, I can't quite find a good use for channel 3 yet, but I'll keep trying. I think it'll make a difference when I put some nice tubes in it. But for right now, channel 1 and 2 with my OCD will be perfect for all I need.

Another vote for v30's ... They sound great with the jsx
