Peavey Rockmaster CockBlocker!!!

I own 3 of these.......2 are in the US in boxes and one is here with me. They were bought with the intent of sending them to FJA as i am a fan of his work and cant afford to ship amps to him nor ship amps from the US.
I love the heavy rhythm tones i can get out the RM i have here, but the cocked wah nasal tone is killing the vibe....... i tried some of the mods found online but they dont seem to help that much, at least with the ultra gain pulled.
I will try boosting it with a Tubescreamer with the Gain pushed in to see if that keeps that hi mid freq away.

If anyone has any ideas on removing that upper mid peak, please share them. Or else i might just sell this locally and get the other 2 modded by FJA to get that cock wah tone blocked for good!

Use a parametric EQ and notch out that nasal frequency.

I had a Rockmaster for about 10 years, i sold it about a year ago, it was OK, but i don't really miss it, seems i always had too much mids or not enough, never really had "THE TONE", always had plenty of gain though.

I used to have one. I loved it, but I sold it to fund a new cab I needed, I already have an ultra plus, so it was kind of redundant to have the Rockmaster. I loved that preamp though, I was always able to dial out the cocked wah tone from mine, change up the tubes, and just really experiment with the mid control pushed in, and pulled out.

Cool!! That gives me hope. I used to have an ultra plus myself which i loved. Now i have a 5150 which doesn't work and this RM which is annoying. Hopefully Jerry will be able to sort me out, I love the RM. For the price it cant be beat!
Did anyone try any mods which helped ?

I believe you're on the right track with using a ts for a boost with the gain pushed in. That's how I run mine. I think the gain pulled makes mine sound thin and sterile while the ts tightens it up without hollowing it out too much. It's also worth trying through different power sections.

i ran a Rock Master for 15 years, mostly into a Boogie 50/50, for high-gain proggy metal. the trick for me was a graphic EQ in the loop.

i boosted in the midrange, but flat IIRC around 1.6k or 2k, and cut in the low mids. the midrange boost made it fatter, which made the nasal treble fade into the mix well, and the low mid cut tightened up the low end for heavy palm muting. it sounded great with the gain pulled out or pushed in.
