Tubes for my Peavey Triple X head.

Power section: 6L6 or EL34 and why? I'd appreciate your input and insight. I'm leaning toward EL34's to be punchier and add grind while taming the fizz and the low end.

Preamp section: If you've tried lower gain tubes in the preamp, which tubes did you go with, what slots did you put them in (V1,V2, etc) and how did they affect gain and tone?

Thank you!

I liked Sovtek 6L6WXT in mine when I had it. Ran a mix of some old Amperex bugle boy and Sovtek and EHX preamp. Never tried EL34. Killer amps.

I had an old logo and new logo XXX at the same time as my JSX. They sounded good with both tube types, but found the ultra channel too much and stayed on the crunch channel. The JSX won out in the end due to a more useable ultra channel. Make sure you experiment with the dampening switch on the back because it affects the amps entire feel and sound.

I like Mesa 6l6s in that amp . It roars . But if you want a more classic sound go el34

Need a 5751 in V2 to tame the XXX's Ultra channel.
