Well, like the title says, it's time for a re tube. Currently running 6L6's and thinking about throwing in a quad of Ruby EL34BSTR's, apparently this gets the amp a little closer to modded Marshall territory. Definitely want to bias the amp when the new tubes come in, but I know that the test points on the back aren't exactly helpful for this process. I have been spoiled by my DSL's actual bias points that are easy to get to. Is there an easy way to check the XXX's bias to make sure its in the right ballpark?

get a bias probe?

also, depending on the year - it may also need a a resistor change i believe

I'll check into the probe. I was looking at a Weber at one time but I think they got discontinued. Biasing the DSL with a DMM is so damn easy it's not even funny. Guess it will be time to crack this bad boy open soon and see what happens. Or maybe I should send it off for some mods. Hmmmm....

get the el34's for sure, I had that amp for three years and imho everything improved with el34's including the clean channel. Made the crunch channel absolutely scream to me. I personally loved mine with lower gain preamp tubes in v1 and v4 so check that out too. as far as your actual question you would have to use either a bias probe or the shunt method like a traditional amp but you should be fine with the test points as the range isn't enough to blow the tubes according to Peavey. Only need to change the resistors with e34l's not el34's.
