I dont really understand how the tonestack thing affects tone and feel, I guess. It seems like the ultra is more what I want, but idk.

It's hard to explain if you haven't experimented with it, but I'll try anyway.

To massively oversimplify - having the tone stack come before the gain stages is like swapping pickups, only you get to decide what characteristics you want to come through the most. If you want your sound to be tighter and more focused, turn down the bass. If you want more attack, turn up the treble, etc.

The down side is that you've got a fixed (and pretty mid-heavy) tone after the gain stages, which is why the Mark series comes with a GEQ - it allows for the tonal flexibility that's lost by moving the tone stack before the gain, which is why most amps out there have post-gain tone stacks. The down side to a post-gain TS is that you're stuck with a given feel out of the preamp - if it's too loose or too thin, you've got to add pedals or swap pickups to compensate.

AAAAHHHH I see. That makes sense. Thanks.

I decided Im gonna pass on both, and just save up a little bit over the next few months and get a beat to shit 5150 head. Neither of these amps is what I really want, but thought they would be a nice cheap way to solve a problem, but I figure I wont be happy with something that Im not sure I want, so I might as well wait...We wont be gigging for a while, and in the mean time, Ill just carry my 6505 combo headshell thing to practice.

Yeah, dude...if you're really looking for a 5150, neither of these will do it.
They're both killer amps, but neither of them is as 5150 as a real 5150.

Yeah. I think I just need to wait it out. I do still want to grab a classic 30 at some point this year though.
