I've got the Friedman Power Grid, but I need more outputs. Like 12+...and it needs to be quiet. So I'm looking at the VL MONDO and Walrus Audio Phoenix.

I had a VL PP2 a while back and it was a little noisey with my wah. I don't run pedals that need crazy draw. All take 9V and are basics, like Xotic Wah, MXR Mini Flange, MXR Chorus, TC Spark, Airis Savage Drive, Hardwire Delay, etc.

My Friedman is dead quiet comparatively.

My board is the Friedman 1525; love that thing.

Any recent experiences with these?

Cheers.

What's the current draw on your pedals? If under 100 ma you can daisy chain multiple pedals on one power output fron the power grid. I have 4 Friedman pedals daisy chained to one 100ma 9v output on my power supply, I read a thread here that said draw was very low on the Friedman pedals so it works great. Lot cheaper to buy the cable than it is a new power supply.

Cioks Ciokolate is also in that category and is pretty sweet.

Stay away from the Phoenix unless you like a loud nasty ground hum when using pedals in the FX Loop with it. I had one and was extremely disappointed with it. The company even tried to swap the circuit board in it to fix it. That did not work. I now have 2 Friedman power grids and that completely solved my problem. My experience with the Phoenix has put me off the Walrus products all together, which is unfortunate because there are a few of their pedals that I was planning to buy. Stay way from the Phoenix, it is a bad product.

OK, thanks for the tips so far, gents. ...I guess like hatrick00, I could just use two Power Grids, but then I've gotta plug in twice for the pedalboard.

QUESTIONS:

1) Can you daisy chain power supplies?

2) If I went the MONDO or Ciokolate, can you plug a regular analog 9V type pedal into any of the 12V outputs as well without frying your pedal?

Cheers.

FWIW I also use the largest Friedman deluxe pedal board, absolutely love it. The two power grids both mount under it. I think two will even fit on the smaller boards, I am not certain about their smallest board though. I would also recommend the mondo, that company has a great reputation when it comes to power supplies.

Awesome. Yeah, I love the Friedman pedalboard. I have the 1525. So you just have two power cables going to power each Grid?

Yea, and to be honest going in I was a little concerned that it would be a huge pain in the ass, but it really is a non issue. Takes 10 extra seconds for me to plug in the 2nd supply. For me, it is worth it to have a dead quiet rig. With my Zuul in the loop using key input, and with these 2 power grids, it is the cleanest sound I have EVER had. Again, stay away from the Phoenix, that thing was TERRIBLE. Someone who doesn’t use the loop would prob have no issue with the Phoenix, but it was a huge problem for me using the loop. I even tried different amps, different pedals. I didn’t matter, anytime the loop was introduced to the equation I got a nasty hum. Completely gone with the power grids.

Whoa, I never thought about the daisy chain idea? What's a good quality daisy chain cable that has some reach?

Not sure of the draw on my pedals, but this is what I would have in total.

Out Front
Shure GLXD-16 Wireless
Xotic Wah
MXR Univibe
Whirlwind Rochester Phaser
MXR Mini Flange
MXR Analog Chorus
Airis Effects Savage Drive
TC Electronic Spark Boost
Fortin Zuul (not using Key input now)

FX Loop
Digitech Hardwire
TC HOF Reverb
TC Mini Spark (solo boost)

I think all of these work under 100 ma, except maybe for the Digitech Hardwire digital delay?

Thoughts on if a Daisy chain might be the solution? Maybe daisy chain just a few pedals into one Power Grid input? The Power Grids have 300ma each.

Cheers, guys!

I use a one spot multi plug cable.

So you're daisy chaining several pedals into one input of your power supply? Which power supply are you using?

I am using a Voodoo lab Pedal Power 2+, not the Friedman Power Grid but principle is the same. I just use one of the regular 9V outputs on the PP2+ (which is 100ma) and one of the cables in this pic. The one spot cable has a female input so you still have to use one of the cables that came with your power supply, the one spot chain just attaches to the end of the stock cable where a pedal would normally be... 1, 100ma output on my board currently supports running a Buxom Boost, Golden Pearl, Dirty Shirley and BE-OD, all on, all the time (running through a looper), with no additional noise.

I've got the MONDO and you can toggle the outputs from 9V to 12V and also there are 2 high current outputs (for Eventides et al) and 2 SAG outputs - all switchable. Also has a standard grounded socket off the back for expansion. For the money? Awesome unit. YMMV.

OK, I will likely try this route first. I can't keep spending money!!

Thank you, Sensei. I'll keep the MONDO at the top of the list based on feedback and my simpleton brain and needs.

Cheers, all.

i have a couple of the cheap donner ones from amazon, they're not bad.

I'm using a 1-Spot and daisey chaining but want to grab a Truetone CS7.
