Love my Wampler Sovereign at home. Just jamming at home it sounds great...liquidy distortion, tons of sustain, fun to rip with it. Here's the issue - too much mid scoop to use in the band mix. It just disappears. So i've been contemplating a replacement and would love suggestions. Current leaders in my short list are the Wampler Triple Rec and maybe the Bogner Red. I had a blue and it was a cool pedal but wasn't in love and for this I really want a hotter more saturated and distorted sound.

Suggestions?

Love my bogner red, it does work well in the mix.

Here are a couple others to consider.
Barber direct drive, not tried one but gets great reviews. http://www.barberelectronics.com/compactDD.html
Kingsley harlot, lots of bite. Mode 3 should have enough gain for what you need.
Hermida distortion, would have to find one used, but I was able to get a similar but improved sound compared to a Marshall guv'nor clone.
Check out the bogner burnley too, there is one on the classifieds now too.

Bogner Red +1

Suhr Riot is great too. Haven't tried the reissue yet.

It just so happens that I have a Wampler Triple Wreck for sale in the classifieds...and the Pinnacle. IMO, the Pinnacle is so much more musical than the Bogner Red -- which is the pedal I sold in after I got the Pinnacle...and there was no contest. If you can't cut the mix with a Pinnacle, you're doing something wrong. The TW is a great pedal too, but it is a "Recto in a Pedal", so expect it to sound that way. The Pinnacle is "Brown Sound in a Pedal". It flat out rips...plenty gain if you want it, but very musical through the entire range - either Modern or Vintage.

That said, subjectivity...ask 100 people, and you'll get 100 opinions.

Suhr Riot. I also have a Sovereign. Like you I think it sounds good at home. Live I have enough cut but I dont think it recored well. Too much fizz or something, hard to put a finger on it.

 why the Pinnacle seems to be the only "amp-in-a-box" pedal from Wampler without a 3 band EQ. These days that is almost a deal breaker for me if they don't have at least a treble and bass. Though I will say that the Kingsley harlot violates this rule with only a tone knob, but I still wish it did have a 3 band eq.

I see you sold the SLOstortion. Seen very mixed reviews on that pedal, where as all the other Wampler dirt pedals seem to get much more consistent glowing reviews. What was your thoughts on the SLOstortion?

One of the best pedals to pair with any drive pedal is the empress paraeq, it's a parametric eq pedal. I use mine right after my drive pedals and regardless of the amp, speaker, cab and/or room, I can tweak my sound to standout without an increase in volume. It's about $250 but money well spent and infinitely better than a graphic eq pedal for my situation.
