Got the preamp a couple of months ago. Picked up a VHT/Fryette 2/90/2 lately so it's time to do some proper demos.
Reamped from Ola Englund multitracks, song is Feared - Possessed.

Power amp: VHT/Fryette 2/90/2 (w/ Sovtek 6550WE)
Cab: Orange PPC412

Reminds me of the bar scene in Goodfellas between Liotta and Pesci.

Such an unusual and cool collection of preamps :) Meatsmoke, GP3 and a Peters.

I will have to listen to these clips again with good speakers. iPhone ones don't cut it. I was told that the Fsm is better for really low tuning.

It almost sounds like there is a lack of some needed gain.

Never played any of these amps so idk what they do. Maybe it's our preferences differ and you captured the sound you were going for idk. Is the gain super low on the amp?

It was set up quite clean according to my tonal preference for this kind of music. These amps are capable for lots of gain.

Yeah wasn't sure. The tone was good and really clear. I know a lot of people don't like as much gain as I do but how does the fsm hold up when you give it more juice?

It holds up pretty nicely with gain set high. There are some clips on youtube with more gain:

I think these were done by 7stringer on this forum.

I might do some clips with more gain and not tuned to drop z sometime too, haha.

Sounds pretty cool. Can someone explain the purpose of a preamp versus just using a regular guitar amp. Is it better for recording?

I prefer drop C or drop Bb.

But Drop G is actually really cool once you get used to it IMO just not for me.

It's mostly down to the flexibility, more pairing choices and routing possibilities etc. Sort of like combo vs head + cab.
